Also, if you work on a project with other people, you will find that you will pickup a few skills that are really quite important like learning the fine art of compromise and how to read other people’s code. As you become more familiar with the project, they will eventually want to start contributing to the mailing list or the other forms in which project members communicate. Be warned, however, that not every person that you encounter on the internet is going to have mastered the social niceties. If you want to talk tact with program reason engineers, you will need to learn that not every comment about your pedigree is meant to be taken personally even if it is obvious that the person you are communicating with is a sub-grade moron with a questionable parentage. Try not to bash the volunteers because after all, they are putting in their time and effort for free just like you are. And bashing volunteers is just not cool. To paraphrase a bit of wisdom I picked back up in kindergarten, “If you do not have something constructive to say, shut your pile up.”
