Christmas is on its way. We all know about Santa, but what about Babushka, St. Nicholas and black Peter. Hi, I am Rebecca Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com and today we will be learning about Santa’s counter parts from around the world.
Consider an ancestor of a modern day Santa Claus stately former St. Nicholas is dressed in red and carries a bishop’s crook. Pairing originally from turkey the figure historically rewards good children. One story about the saint tells these 3 small children who found themselves lost. They travel to the house of and evil butcher who says he will help them but ends of chopping them into small pieces in puts them in a pickling cub for 7 years.
At this time St Nicholas appears at the butcher’s door explaining that he knows what the man has done. Shortly after, Saint Nicholas prays to God and this restores the children to life and they returned to their families. This is one of the many stories which explain why Saint Nicholas is the patron and protector of children.
Black Peter is a companion of Saint Nicholas. Seen as the chimney sweep as seat covered man is a counter part of Santa Claus’ elves. Helping a man in red give his gifts to children.
Black Peter descends in the chimney before Saint Nicholas and instead of rewarding the good children he punishes those who have been bad but filling their shoes with turnips, stones and coal.
And when they were been really, really bad I give them a spanking, like this.
Have a good day and enjoy your visit.
Sorry, I got to go, bye-bye.
