Once and esoteric and mystical art form conserved for the empress of imperial China, feng shui is now a way of life for many easterners and an increasingly popular practice among modern westerners. Dating back to thousands of years B.C., the roots of this age-old oriental philosophy are hidden deep within China’s mythological past with much of its originating history cursed away into the mist of time. We do know however that astrology, divination skills, local religious beliefs and ancient China’s most profound faith Taoism have largely influenced the evolution of feng shui.
As magic and ecclesiastic code as all this may seem, feng shui is by no means of religion nor does it involve ritual and there is certainly nothing supernatural about it. In very simple terms, the art of feng shui aims to find balance, a balance within and between people and their environment. To achieve this is to create harmony across all aspects of life.

Owing to the thousands of years worth of knowledge that stamped behind its practice, it would be misleading to suggest that in an hour we could cover this immense and multi-dimensional subject. We will however, mark out some of the most basic and fundamental principles of this ancient art form which can be applied without fuss and with very little for no expense.
As you will soon see some feng shui suggestions can be as simple as strategically placing a part or adding a hint of color to a room but it’s quite hard to question just how such behavior can become your life. Of course, there isn’t any malleable or scientific evidence to prove how feng shui actually works. All we have to go on is the world above us. As very rational westerners tend to look the scientific proof to be able to believe in things like this so it can be quite hard to go along that the seemingly mysterious oriental philosophy.
The Chinese way of thinking has been largely influenced by the concepts of Taoism and Confucianism and to recognize these will prove very helpful in understanding feng shui. Derived from the word Taoism, Tao actually pronounced “Dao” translates to “the way” or sometimes “the universe” and is based on finding a path to self enlightenment. Linked to peace, meditation, naturalness and serenity, Tao is passive and free-flowing completely undeliberate. Confucianism was another influence to the way of Chinese thinking that the Ai Ching book of changes and Chinese wisdom playing a major part. The basic belief here is destiny. Nothing is left to charms. Such concepts of Tao and destiny helped to make up the all important foundations of feng shui.
