When you think of China Town colorful paper lanterns, delightful dim sum and fears Chinese dragon may come to mind. The truth is China Town in Los Angeles has all of that and more.
Hi, I'm Veronica Hill with California Travel Tip. Let's tour this historic immigrate community and see what hidden treasures we can find.
Established in 1938 LA’s new China Town makes a fun and exotic day trip. Today it’s come to more than 15000 Asian residence that live, play and worship here everyday.
The tallest temple on El Street is one of the largest and most beautiful in Southern California. Here worshiper is pray to Goddess of seas lighting incense and offering up fruits and vegetables which are use to feed the poor.
During Chinese New Year oranges are offered at this temple alter for good luck and fortune. The celebration continues with crackling fireworks and a festive dragon parade along North Broadway which drives more than 50 thousands spectators a year.
One of my favorite things about China Town are the performances by the Shaolin Monks. These incredibly talented Kung fu warriors performed the first and third Sunday of each month in Central Plaza.
Check this out this is where Bruce Lee opens his third martial arts academy here in the United States. Central Plaza’s jimmying way name for the street of golden treasures and old picking is a colorful makes of Chinese restaurants, fortune tellers, art galleries and amusements. You may even see a Chinese contortionist stunt.
Don’t miss the colorful Chinese dragon hero painted by Tyrus Wong then throw a coin for luck at the seven stars sacred caverns wishing pool. The shopping is also good here. Check out Realm one of China Town hip new home stores then pick up some Chinese arts or jade jewelry at the K.G Louie Co. a gift shop dating back to 1935. At Sincere Imports will discovered Chinese Lanterns, mask, another fun souvenir.
The fortune cookie was invented right here in Los Angeles in 1916. Created by George Jung of the Hong Kong Noodle Company this sweet treats are still made fresh daily in China Town Wonder Bakery where you also finds some great bubble tea.
You can't leave China Town without indulging in some good Chinese food just be sure the restaurant you go to has an A in the window anything less won’t do. My picks for the best Chinese restaurants are Yang Chow known for its slippery shrimp and Empress Pavilion where you'll find the best dim sum lunch in Los Angeles. Follow this step with the slice of strawberry wipe cream cake at Phoenix Bakery and your meal is complete.
Everything old is new again and China Town is quickly becoming an LA hotspot. In fact Brad Pitt was recently seen at Central Plaza’s Mountain Bar and director Clinton Tarantino now owns the historic King Hing Theater. If you’re looking for a fun alternative to California standard tourist attraction of China Town you won’t disappoint.
