What is up guys! It is Aaron. Last night, I was making a video and I was tuning down the double drop D to learn the song and what happened is I actually broke my high E string tuning down. I do not have that guitar tuning before. But I was going to change my strings and I was like I have a way and kind of just show people how to change their strings, in case they have never learned.
So, when I took them off last night, basically, they had a tool that you can use and all the tool does is once you get this loose, you can just snip them and then take them out here and there. I love these pins down here. Once you got the strings up and they are loose, you can get you hand there and pop them up or you can kind of pull them up with the tool. It is all up to you, it does not matter. But what I have done so far is when I took the strings off, I have this stuff my buddy Josh gave me. It is called Gerlitz Guitar Honey. There are all kinds of different brands. It does not matter which one you use. And all it is like where you going here and then I use a rug and I kind of put some oil into these rugs, kind of clean them off. And I used a rug to wipe down here to get the dust off. And then once I get that dust off, what I usually do is go ahead and start to put strings back on.
So, I already put one string on and I am going to go and put the second string now and kind of try to walk it through in putting it up because I do not run out of memory on this. So, the strings I am using are Ernie Ball, Earthwood because their guitar strings are extra light. I usually use Electra strings. My buddy Josh told me to try some of these. So, I am going to try these so maybe -- if I do not like it.
So, what you want to do now is you want to stick this guitar string here. They have this little loops in. You want to go about, I would say, an inch and a half or two inches up. It is all with personal preference and put a bend in it, kind of like a nine degree bend or even little more. What you are going to do is stick this down through this hole here. What that is going to do is once it gets down through that hole, it is going to kind of angle. The string goes in this way, it goes to the hole and angles back this way. This is going to kind of give you a little more stability. Then you just take this pin and push it down as far as you guys can and then pull the string up. So, it is tight -- pull the strings as you like, you know, work.
Then you want to take your string and line it up in the neck of the guitar and most of these have little slots, if you will see them. So, this string here, you want to make sure that the hole through the string in your neck is kind of placed in straight, so the string goes straight through this. Alright, it goes through pull them all the way through pull it down flat. Then one of the things that you want to do next is to know how much to do. I like to go about four inches. So, from this one where your low E and high E are, I would say to go one up to about this one up here from these two middle ones, your A and your B. I would go to the tip of the neck and then up on these top ones, I would go up maybe like this part, passing up to an inch, passing that. All you do is run it up through and then you are going to go about, like I said, from the tip of the neck in this middle one and you are going to pinch it, so you will know the distance and slide that back down. So, you will have a little bit slack. So, just slide it back down. So, then when you slide it back down, just bend it. So now, it is like that. So, if you slide it up where I ripped it earlier, up here, sort of bend this. Slide down that bend and you are going to start cranking and you want to start cranking away from you, so the string locks in towards you when you are cranking the knob counterclockwise, if you are looking at on the side. What we are going to do is start spinning this string in. The first time through, you want to make sure that your string that you are holding is connected at the bottom. It goes above and that the part that you bend an extra part of it is sticking up in here.
Alright, so you just bend it the first time around, it is going to go above it. Once it goes above, you are going to push the string down and you want to actually go below this part that is sticking up. So, as you keep turning it, you keep turning, this part is going tilt around and you can see in this part is coming through and you want to make sure the string goes under it, so you just pull it down below in this part of it over. Once it does that says you tightened it, the string will push up and it will create with a really tight kind of grip on it.
So, now we will just start cranking next to that tool you can buy. They actually have two parts. One part is where you can actually snip it on one half. You can actually snip the string, kind of wire cutter and the other half is going to crank it real fast. I do not have the one that cranks it but I do not really need it.
I am not that busy in my life that I would have something that cranks down strings or you know, --.
So, just keep cranking that until it gets tighten. What I would recommend is that you put all the strings on and this is still loose, it is definitely not on the E yet. This one, as you twist it gets tighter. Keep checking on Es to make sure they are pushed down far enough as they go. Once you got some kind of note like that, you note for rattles. What I would do is I would go ahead and move on to the next string.
And once you get the end, you can kind of do the final tightening, stuff like that. So, tightening, put all the six strings on then do the tightening up to your E, A, D, G, B, E.
Hope that it helps you guys and hopefully now, you can figure out to change your strings.
So, send me some questions you have, make a comment, send me a message either way, and I will get your questions answered.
So, thanks guys. I am going to put the rest of the strings on and try to get some songs up for tonight.
See you.
