Hi, I’m Daris Lancaster Stojakovich, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Life Couch. And today I’m talking about how to handle holidays stress. And right now, I’m going to be talking about some tips and techniques for really reducing and stopping stress in it’s track during the holidays in any time of year.
When simple, easy and very portable way to stop stress and tracks is the practice of deep breathing. This is portable because you can do it anywhere and you can do it while you’re standing in line feeling a little stress of the holiday shopping crowds for example. And it’s really simple, all you need to do is to just call your awareness to your breathing and you can start by taking three, nine deep cleansing breath. Now when you take this breath, you want to be aware that you’re breathing in to your chest and in to you abdomen. Breathing in slowly, you can count one, one thousand, two one thousand and on the exhalation, you can count to four in the same manner one, one thousand two one thousand, three one thousand, four one thousand.
Deep breathing is a wonderful stress reliever because it can change the focus, it can change you mindset instantly. When you’re calling your attention to your breathing rather than what’s going on around you like the stress of that line that you’re standing, just calling awareness to your breathing, the mindfulness of how it feels the rise and falls of your chest and you abdomen as you breathing that can bring instant stress relieve.
Also, shallow breathing is contributor to a feeling of physical sensation of breath. So being aware of your breath and just taking that moment takes a few breaths slow and deep and relaxing can really bring a feeling of deep relaxation.
So, another thing that you can do during the holiday season to quickly take a break from stress and to really learn how to cope with it’s effect even more efficiently is to use hypnosis or self-hypnosis. Now, all hypnosis is considered self-hypnosis whether you’re having a hypnotherapist to act as the guide, to lead you through the visualization and deep relaxation. But it’s a process that you allow to prepare to do self-hypnosis you need to understand some principles of gradual relaxation just sitting, being aware of your breathing. And just imagine with visualization, a seen that you want to build, you can imagine seeing yourself in a beautiful safe place of nature. You can imagine just simply sitting quietly, buy your favorite holiday decoration and just relaxing.
Have prepare also what you want to focus on. You can choose a mantra, something like this holiday is a time of deep relaxation for me. Whatever you choose, making sure that it’s positive, uplifting and that it’s not using a negative because young conscious mind doesn’t really understand a negative. And negative would be something like I will not be stress to this holiday. Your unconscious mind hears stress this holiday. So make sure that it is something very positive and you can choose to go in to that, sit and relaxation and to imagine and visualize yourself in a surrounding that safe and comfortable. In this thought come and go which they will again, don’t engage in them. And just simply when you feel very, very deeply relax kind of like in the stage of a day dream instead of deep focus like you get involve in a movie or a book. When you feel that state of mind come over you then you can simply save yourself while experience the visualization, you can save yourself those lines like this holiday season is a wonderful relaxing time or whatever it is you choose to focus on.
The wonderful thing about using self-hypnosis is that you’re getting the critical factor the part of your mind that says “Yes but, yes but in fact it stressful”, and you can quit in that part of your mind so that the literal thinking non-critical part of yourself sub-conscious mind can just accept it.
Now, if you think about how emotion and attitude affect you holiday season in anytime of year, you can become aware of an example of someone driving in holiday traffic. You can have someone catch you often instantly the feelings of negativity and upset and distress and stress can come over you. And the n imagine your phone ringing and it’s someone that you love dearly on the line there and suddenly where is that negativity and stress. Your focus is changed even if it is just for that moment and those feeling of stress is completely left your body. That’s how stress can really affect us, consciously or unconsciously.
So, why you’re enjoying that conversation, you feeling the feelings of happiness and of joy. And it’s only after the conversation ends and you’re engage with the traffic and then you let your mind drove back again with those thoughts so that rude driver that cut you off but you begin to feel those negative feelings again. So with hypnosis, you can actually learn and self-hypnosis, you can actually how to control your thought and how your thoughts can really control you in how you feel.
