Hi, I’m Daris Lancaster Stojakovich, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Life Couch. And today I’m talking about tips and techniques for handling holiday stress. And right now, we’re going to talking about the stress of over eating and over indulging in alcohol during the holidays.
During the holidays season, it’s very tempting with all the foods, the special treats and extravagant meals to really over indulge in both and alcohol. Unfortunately in both of this things whether can be comforting at the moment can add more stress to your holidays, stress after the holidays with the increase weight gain, stress perhaps after the holidays with the increase dependency on alcohol or food for comfort.
What can you do to manage the stress of over eating and over indulging in alcohol during the holidays? For one thing you can do is to be aware of it. To practice on mindfulness toward your eating which will talk about later the actual practice of being present and mindful when eating that can really help and don’t over indulge. It always for a better to have a little bit of something that’s completely decadent then to have a whole life that something that just as junk food or not good for you.
One thing you can do to eliminate the temptation to over eat before decadent holiday parties is to have a snack something healthy like a banana and apple or just a light meal before going to the party then that will curb your appetite and your tendency and your temptation to really dig in to the buffet or to over indulge the foods that there.
A little advance planning can really help you from over indulging in food during the holidays. So, one thing that you might helpful is to actually rather than trying to loss a weight after the holidays which is the mind set of saying “it’s okay to gain weight”. Well, if you tell yourself that, it’s going to happen. So rather than allowing yourself to think of it that way, you can do some advance planning and say choose to loss a few pounds two, three maybe five pounds before the holiday is actually begin. And it’s always easier to loss it when you haven’t gain it, isn’t it.
Or what about the stress of over indulging in alcohol? During the holidays, we can often feel the temptations to over indulge in alcohol as a form of entertainment, as a form of self medicating or even as just a form of lightning the mode and perhaps making ourselves feel less inhibited around people where not comfortable or holiday social gatherings. Being aware of how you are viewing that alcohol, the drinks that you’re having and keeping it to a minimum, understanding that the stress of over indulging in alcohol and the hang-over or the sleeplessness that it causes can really add to distress of the holidays. Keep in mind also can be helpful for every alcoholic beverage you have, every glass of wine for example you want to have a glass of water with it.
They founds they’ve done studies to show that the one thing that can really prevent and help with the hang-over is to keep your body and your brain while hydrated while drinking alcohol.
