So I'm inviting you again into my bathroom. I have to show with you a little bit more of my morning routine.
I know we all have the same stuff going on you know there’s a bazillion things you’re trying to get to every morning and I always try anyway I can, you know find a little bit of beauty in my morning even though it’s widely chaotic and that’s okay too. I mean that’s you know part of the gig of having four little kids and shop when everybody out to school. But I do try to get up a way a bit earlier than all of the kids because it just helps me, it gives me that few seconds to breath before they get all wild. And I told you guys before, I go down stairs and I work out and I love doing that because I cannot find my center. And then you know, I come up and what I wanted to share with you is my quick makeup routine.
So the deal is during the week, I put a little bit of makeup on and I'm doing videos, if you guys have to put a little bit more on, because the camera is in the lights and the stuff like that. So I hope that you don’t turn it up in that, but up when I'm just going to the studio or doing whatever, I put fairly light makeup on. On the weekends, I really don’t wear makeup at all.
So I wanted to share with you a few of the things I've learned over the years doing my makeup. I modeled for years, years ago in Paris. And after all these years that people putting makeup on for me and you know you’re asking them questions and you’re watching what they’re doing, you really learn so much. And that’s what so neat is you know I've gathered up all these wonderful little tips on how to do quick makeup and stuff and I have to share with you I had hideous skin, when I was a teenager I mean really bad acne. So for me it was always about covering up my skin in any way that I could.
And so, I think over the years, I've learned that a little less makeup is better for me in general because I think that if I gulp on too much, you know it just ends up looking heavy so let’s jump in. Do light a candle, do get your tea and then let’s share this 5-minute makeup deal.
So okay, I think that clean face is essential. When I start, I always wash my face before I go to bed that’s huge for me. I really moisturize my face and I drink a ton of water during the day. I'm one of those girls that every time I go to the bathroom, I fill my glass makeup and I drink wine, just feel like it's so good you know to just bring that wonderful life in coloring your face. Then I told you guys before that I use a primer and there are tons of different primers on the marketplace. There’s you know Smash Box and Napoleon and the all kinds of them and basically, all that a primer does is sort of fill in any little fine lines or things like that. It kind of gives you a smooth pallet. You know, it kind of gives you that ability to put your makeup on and just allow it to look that much pretty and you can see I put it around my eyes and everything and it feels--it has this wonderful velvety, it's almost like you’re putting velvet on your face. It’s such a nice feeling and there’s a lots of little vitamins and things in it so that’s quite wonderful too. And I love when I makeup on just putting my hair back so I feel like I can really you know get in there with it and I love putting the rest of it on my hands because it feels so good.
So then I start out with--you know I've kicked my brushes pretty clean and just you know this is a great thing to get yourself, if you're not someone who does makeup at all, get yourself a little -- usually you can get like a brush kit. You can buy individual brushes. You don’t need a gazillion of them. For me, I have a foundation brush and I use that on my fingers to put on my foundation. You can use sponges you know whatever works for you. I have a blush brush which I also use my powder because I really don’t ever use powder at all, unless we’re doing videos and set it like that. I just feel like it’s too kicky for my skin.
I have a basic shadow brush and then I have this little, sort of angle shadow brush and then I have this little fabulous brush, which basically I use this for my eyebrows and just along my lid. So I’ll show you how I use these brushes and these are really—this is it. For me, I have very little makeup and I like that because I just don’t need more maintenance in my life. You know I just don’t need more makeup, so I usually start with a little bit of concealer. I buy one that has a little bit of yellow in it. You’ve got to think about your own skin of course, but in my skin is so fair that I have a little blue veins popping out. And I put the tiniest little bit over here and cover up my veins, and then any little red spots that I've got, I kind of quickly go in and I cover those up right around my nose that’s sort of thing.
And again, you know when I'm doing in this in the morning; it’s pretty liquidly split for me, I don’t take a whole lot of time, but I know that if I get this little part done then all that redness and ruddiness and all that good stuff that we have here on our faces, characters, what I call it, then we can cover that stuff up and the we’re going to move on to the next part.
So I kind of do that piece, then the next part is I usually-- you know my skin color of course changes a little bit over the seasons, so I keep a couple of colors of foundation. I’ll usually mix them together. And I'm not a girl who hangs out best thing in the sun a lot. I just -- I find that I really try to stay out of the sun. I actually prefer when my skin is not overly tanner, I like a little color. But I know that if I keep a few colors that if my skin does change colors through the seasons then I can kind of mix my own.
So you know that’s something to consider playing around with, certainly like my own kitchen in the bathroom. Make your own flavors and you know, you sort of personalizing your skin care. And you know there’s no reason that you shouldn’t feel comfortable doing that too. You know just allow it to be what you want it to be. As you see, I put it on my hand and then I quickly brush it on and I just kind of put it on the spots that make the most scents for me wherever I have a little bit of extra redness.
As you notice, I don’t put any makeup in here and the reason I don’t do that is I just feel like it just make my eyes look heavier and all those wonderful little wrinkles. Yes, I have those too. You know then they don’t show up and I find when I do put makeup on them, my eyes look really heavy and kicky, so that’s something to certainly consider. I try to avoid this area right here too. But as you see I do put it right in here because that’s kind of my little--you know blue veiny spot. So you know I know that we all get this close to the mirror and we’ll find out this goofy flaws and stuff and you know just don’t get too picky on yourself. Enjoy the beauty that you are and that you have. And you know, find ways to just enhance it. You know that’s a great thing about makeup, it's just a fun thing to play around with and you don’t have to get too picky, picky on yourself.
Then what I use is a bronzer and so it’s one of those dual tone things. There's a lighter tone and the medium tone and I love these because what it does is it allows me to add just that little bit of color in underneath my cheek bones. I put a little tiny bit on my chin, a little bit on my nose, I do the tiniest bit up here on my forehead and it just gives me that little bit of extra on my face, that extra interest. And I also just do a quick brush right here and I like that because again during the week, I'm not getting too fancy with my makeup. Then, after I put that on my face, I use a brighter pretty pink and I just kind of put that on the apple, you know, just kind of make that little look that your husband makes fun of you for or whoever your boyfriend or anyone else who’s watching you put on a makeup. And I just kind of brush it on my cheek and you can see that just brightens me up a little bit.
I tend to put a little bit more on because by the time I go to work, I don’t know what it is, but I don’t know if it's Gus touching me with his peanut butter hands or whatever. It’s just sort of seems to kind of fall off my face, so I put a little bit of extra on and then by the time I get there and I really like it.
So here I am so far. Then, by this point I’ll usually put on—I use a very simple lip gloss. I don’t do lots of lipstick or anything like that during the weekend and also don’t even line my lips, because it’s just too much fuzz for me during the weekend. There’s really -- I don’t feel the need to do it. Then what I will do is so I've got this little fun brush and I take this. I’ll take a kind of a neutral, almost like my eyebrow color. I’ll do the tiniest little bit right in here. See that little, little tiny angle right there. And I just do that because all it does is that brings my eye out, but just a little bit.
Then I’ll take this brush which is kind of my flip brush. I use the same color and I’ll actually go in on my brow and I’ll do a very quick, quick brow. And I love this color because I really have found the color that I feel like is as close to my brow as I can find it. All I'm doing is kind of defining my brow. Then I will take a black and I will literally go in right a long the edge of my eye. And all I'm doing is trying to basically smooch color into the edge of my lash.
Okay, look guys I sound great funny when I'm trying to say I'm mooching my hand against my chin. But that is wonderful because then what you’re doing is you’re getting that color right down in there and I think it’s very nice, t allows your whole eye to open up just that much more and you know, it’s just a great little opener. I don’t do too heavy you down here, but I just do a little tiny, tiny powder and this is all powder stuff and I bring it all the way around very, very lightly, so that I connect to the scorners and everything, so that it really does open my eye up. You know what I mean? I know that we all grab doing different things and you know this is me again. Years of these makeup artists giving me little tips and things like that and I find that this really does help give my eye just that little bit of color. Believe me when I'm not doing it for you, it’s going on even faster.
So for you I'm going a little bit more slowly, so you can really see it. Then I actually use a black liner and I don’t keep it too sharp, believe it or not, I keep it kind of flat and smudgy looking and what I is again, I go ride along my eyelid and I smash it right in along there because then I know, sometimes the powder will leave a little bit faster but this stuff really stays in there, and you're literally--you feel like you’re almost drying on top of your eyelashes if that make sense. And you can see it really does open up your eyes.
So then we’re almost done. You can see it’s really pretty quick. Then I curl my eyelashes, if you don’t curl your eyelashes, I do have friends that have never curled their eyelashes. I find again it opens up your eyes and for most women; their eyes are something that they really want to play up. And so, I curl my eyelashes, I usually hold there on there for you know 3 or 4 seconds or so. Then, by the way if you have any little bits and pieces that fall down, always just take a little cue tip and if it doesn’t come off of its smudges then all you have to do is this, this is a great little tip. You just take a tiny bit of your concealer. You try to get off as much as you can and then you take that little bit of concealer and you go back in on it and it would really essentially disappear. So you’re not you know smudging at all over face. You know we all have those little tips.
And then I put on my mascara, when I put on my mascara, I roll the brush and I go on really close to the line, and I really try to pull the lashes apart when I'm doing it and I’ll try to put on a couple of layers of it because again I'm not wearing too much makeup so my mascara is the kind of the thing that gives me that additional little bit of boost to my eye and that’s basically as simple as it is. And honestly, with the little bit of makeup I put on, you seriously, you can put this on in 5 minutes.
So I hope some of these little tips had given you just that little extra something. I love doing something like this for myself in the morning. A little bit of makeup just gives me a boost, it's not too much. It just helps me feel just how much more pull together a little blush, a little gloss, and a little bit of eye. I love it, I'm kind of pampered and now, I can run, get the kids their breakfast and be on with my days, so again, always start your day out with a little something wonderful for you.
