Now let's take a look at a lick that we can try that will get us to go between alternate picking and single note picking.
The alternate picking will be use to go through the lick fluently and then we'll add the single note picking the down picking as it were to give us a little bit of an accent to make those last notes stand out more so. From here that lick again.
You will notice the first half of it's real fluid and the notes were played quickly and then the last two notes have kind of a down pick feel that gives them more of an accent and make them stand out from the rest of the lick.
So start with your third finger here on the ninth fret of the fourth string, pick that down, first finger is going to go on the seventh fret of the third string. Now you want to pick that up, and then put your third finger on the ninth fret of the third string, pick that down. Pinky on the tenth fret of the third string, we'll pick that up; back down to the ninth fret with your third finger, pick that down; and then back down to the seventh fret of the third string, pick that up; and then you are going to pick the ninth fret here on the fourth string with your third finger, we are going to pick that down; and then you are going to pick the seventh fret here on the third string, you are going to pick that down. These are the notes we are putting the accent on, and then put your third finger back here on the ninth fret of the fourth string, you are going to pick that down. Those are the notes you are putting accent on.
So alternate pick, then down, down, down, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, down, down. Now the alternate picked passages are much faster and then the down picked passages stay. This kind of stick out on there own. That's alternate picking.
On my clean channel the master volume and some of the stuff in order to have the volume levels almost the same. My EQ settings are just back in the middle. Now the first chord it's just an A power chord, I am using my second finger on the fourth string second fret, third finger on the third string second fret.
