Now, we have done some licks using the major thirds; let's take a look at that flat fifth. The flat fifth is one of the most common embellishments that you can add to the pentatonic scale and one of the cool things about it is you can kind of use it regardless of which chord you are on.
It occurs here at the sixth fret of the fifth string and also here at the eighth fret of the third string. So sixth fret of the fifth string, eighth fret of the third string. So we will play that lick.
So start with your third finger at the seventh fret of the fourth string. First finger at the fifth fret of the third string. Third finger at the seventh fret of the third string, pinky grabbing the eighth fret, third string, back on the seventh fret, third string, back to the fifth fret, third string, then third finger is going to be on the seventh fret, fourth string, and then back to your fifth fret on the third string. So it's here where we have got -- so over E7, straight pentatonic lick.
Now, the D7 with there on that major third. Then A7, pick there on the major third from A7 again, and then coming back over the D7 which we won't play, we will go straight to the lick using the flat fifth.
Then starts for the hammer-on from the seventh to the ninth fret on the third string, and then the eighth fret on the second string. Now really think of that as three different little sections that make that whole, starting off the first section.
