So now that we have looked at how to fret notes and position the hand with our thumb behind the neck and having in an arch to the finger and being on the right part of the fret. Now let's take a look at some chords. These five major chords that we are going to start with are ones that are used in many, many songs regardless of whether you are playing folk, country, rock. They are just chords you need to know and they are ones that will variations of later all up and down the neck as we get into more advance things.
So the chords we will be looking at would be a C major, a G major, a D major, an A major and an E major. We won't be looking at in the that order however, we will start with the easiest one to fret, just to get your finger strengthened up and this should be the easiest one to play.
If we start with an E major chord, we are going to take the second finger and put it down on the second fret of the fifth string. So I am counting one two three four five. So we always count down from the thinnest string. So we have got this twangy E string here. We are just going to go one, two, three, four, five to the second fret. So I am in the second fret space and as we have talked about before, make sure that you are as close to the fret as you can be without being on top of the actual fret wire.
So we have got the second finger on the second fret of the fifth string and noticed that it's kind of an arch along the tip of the finger. Next, we are going to need the third finger on the second fret of the fourth string. Now you will notice, in order to do that I have got to scoot the second finger back just a little bit. That's fine as long as I am staying as close as I can. So I am going to have this third finger right next to the fret wire and the second finger is as close as it can get, while still making room for the third finger.
After that I am going to take the first finger and put that down on the first fret of the third string. So I am going to hold all those down at the same time. Notice my thumb isn't up over the neck, its back here. I am on the tips of the fingers with them arched over the neck and I am trying very carefully just stay off of the second and first strings that those are able to ring open.
So I don't want to meet those as I go behind. I am going to strum all six strings as I go through it. Now one other thing that I will mention is as you go through these chords, you want to be very careful as you are practicing them to pick every string by itself and listen to the tone that you are getting.
So you want to check that you are not getting buzz notes. So as I am picking through that, if I noticed that I have got notes they don't ringing out properly, there is a problem and I need to address it with a little bit more scrutiny. So we will talk about how to fix those problems in or next segment.
G chord, C chord, A minor and D chord make up the song. I can leave my first and second finger in place and my ring finger it slides into the second fret of the third string.
