Intro to the Barre
Tutorial: Part 3
So a very simple exercise to do, to get used to that, that barre here on the first two strings, and then using your other fingers, it's just to alternate between the barre, and then using each of your fingers individually.
So I will take the first and the second string, then I will add my second finger to the first string, then I will come back to the bar. Then I am going to add my third finger, then I am going to come back to the bar. Then I am going to add my pinkie.
So when you play it in order, it should sound like this. Then we would want to move up to doing three strings. With the guitar tuning we can do a nice little minor triad.
So let's try here on the third fret, we are going to barre the third, the second, and the first string. Although, I am trying it on the third fret, feel free to try it on the fifth fret, you can try it on the seventh fret, try it on the twelfth fret.
I have got my first finger barred here on the third string, second string, and the first string, all here at the third fret. It's just a little bit more difficult than barring the two strings; the first and the second, but it gives us a nice minor chord. So we will strum all three of them together.
We will just practice adding our second and our third and our pinkie to the chord shape, just so we can learn how to avoid clumping our hand together to get as much weight down on this as possible.
So with the third finger here on the fifth fret of the fourth string, pick that and slide up to the seventh fret. Then with your first finger you are going to barre the fifth fret on the third string.
Place your third finger on the seventh fret here on the third and the second string, and you are going to bend both of those notes.
