Intro to Hammer-Ons
Danny Grady: I'll play for you slowly again. So we are going to start off picking the open 3rd string and then hammering on to the 2nd fret here with our first finger. So let's do that, and then with that still ringing go ahead and pick the 2nd string open. Come back to this 3rd string, 2nd fret where you should have the notes so fretted, pick that by itself, and pick the third string open. Let's try that.
Now pick the 4th string open and again with your first finger you are going to hammer on at the 2nd fret of that 4th string. Then pick the 3rd string open. And let's put those first two parts together and then I am going to end it with this lick.
So pick the 5th string open and then hammer on to the 2nd fret of the 5th string with your first finger and with that still going then hammer on to the third fret of that same exact string with your second finger. Then after that you want to want to pick the 4th string open and then bring your second finger up to the 3rd fret 6th string to finish it out. So let's listen.
Giles Martin: Hi! This is Giles Martin on there Abbey Road Studio two, talking about Paperback Writer. So, Paperback Writer is a landmark recording for number of reasons. But mainly because it was the first time that the English, the Brits have managed to work out base frequencies. We will be hitting on beats one and two and then on the end of three, shitting again and then on four, adding the 4th finger.
