Danny Grady: Now another device that uses palm muting is when you alternate between hitting something wide open and then between hitting something palm muted, just kind of the contrast there. So let's start with like a G5 chord. Then you will notice I am alternating between hitting that G5 wide open and doing the palm muting thing. So finger G5 with your first finger here on the 3rd fret of the 6th string and your third finger is going to go here on the 5th fret of the 5th string.
Now strum just the 6th string twice but palm muted and then strum both notes the 6th string and the 5th string together. That would be the whole G5 chord and as you do this, lift your palm away.
Now I kind of exaggerated that motion. You just want to lift it up just enough to get rid of the palm mute as you strum. And then when you are done, just place your palm back and hit the 6th string twice, then strum again. Then hit the 6th string just once and then strum the chord again wide open.
So twice muted, chord wide open, twice muted, chord wide open, once muted, chord wide open and you got a nice little pattern and that's palm muting.
Jeff Carlizi: Hi! I am Jeff Carlizi and I am back with you to take apart, Hold On Loosely and give you the roadmap on how the song is put together. The intro starts on the 7th fret, just basically using the one and the five; the B note and the F#.
