Danny Grady: So, you want to try with a -- just try with the second finger. Same rules applied; very tip of the second finger after you pick the note, you want to pick it hard, you want to just pull off using the tip of your second finger, almost to pick the note again and then lend so to speak on the second string. You don't want to fret on the second string; you just want to touch it enough to stop your second finger from moving and touch it enough to prevent it from ringing out.
Again, using a little bit of distortion if you have an electric guitar will give you a more sustained and give you a higher chance of being successful the first time that you try this. No shame in trying something with a lot of distortion the first time to make it easier and then slowly as you get stronger, more coordinated, working up to play it on a clean sounding guitar or on acoustic guitar.
Of course, conversely, if you can do this on an acoustic guitar coming to an electric is really, really easy. Let's try it again with your third finger. I am using the tip of my third finger, picking the note hard, using the tip to just kind of pick the string again and then stopping on the second string, commute it.
Once you got the feel for Open string pull-off, then let's try some fret-to-fret pull-off. Often times when you are setting up a fret-to-fret pull-off, you are going to have to get the finger behind the pull-off in place at the same time that you get the finger that's doing the pull-off in place.
So, it is almost like a chord sometimes. You are going to have to set up two fingers. So, let's start with our first finger here on the second fret of the third string and then our third finger on the fourth fret of the third string. You are going to pick the fourth fret and then again with the tip of your third finger, just pick the string again, pull off and keep your first finger down the whole time.
Alex Lifeson: Hi, this is Alex Lifeson of Rush and today, we are going to work on 'The Spirit of Radio'. It starts at the F#, which is the second fret on the high E string and it is --
