Danny Grady: Also, I am using the back half of my first finger here to mute the open strings beneath it. Kind of there's an extra insurance policy. Yeah, now when you eliminate those open strings ringing from -- when you do pull-offs and hammer-ons, that makes everything sound so much cleaner, and there is a million ways to mute those strings.
Never discount the power of your right-hand palm here, just to kind of lay it across strings at anytime to get rid of any unwanted noise. So now, that we are used to that, let's try a very, very basic lick that uses pull-offs to make it sound more fluid.
So start with your second fret, first finger here on the second fret of the third string. You are going to pick that note and pull-off to the open. Put your third finger here on the fourth fret of the fourth string. Pick that and then pull-off to the open.
Again, don't forget to use the guide string underneath it. Just kind of stop on that string so it doesn't ring out. Now, we are going to set up the next pull-off. Again, it's almost like setting up a chord. Taking your second finger and put it on the third fret of the fifth string and then your first finger on the second fret of the fifth string. Pick the third fret and then pull off to the first -- your first finger which should be on the second fret.
Then, when you are done with that, you don't need to pick again, just take your first finger and pull-off to the open.
