Danny Grady: So, back in position, got our thumb, we are using as a leverage. Now, you can just take your pinky where you can slide the whole thing up, whichever one is more comfortable for you, come up and play that 11th fret note. That is our target note. We are just going to get that pitch in our head, come back and push the string up. So, it's the same pitch as our target note.
Overtime, you just will develop a feel that it's specific to your hands is specific to your instrument of how far you have to push up to get the whole step. But for right now, don't be afraid to use the target note as you develop that sense.
Now, it's important to know that if the action on your instrument is bad, it is going to make everything just so much more difficult. So, if you are finding the pressing down on the strings and that your fingers are getting underneath other strings because the action is bad or your setup is bad, it is really worthwhile to take your guitar in and have it adjusted, have someone do a setup on it, so that you give yourself your best chance to do somebody's things well.
So, let's try a similar bend here on the 14th fret of the third string. Again, bring your third finger up to the 14th fret, second finger is going to help you to do the bend and first finger is going to mute the strings above. Thumb is right up at the top here for leverage. I am going to just take my pinky here and play the 16th fret for my target note. Come back, pick the string, push up and get it right on pitch.
