Learn to Play Piano – Nate Bosch
Hi, I’m Nate Bosch and today we’re going to learn how to play the piano. I’m going to assume that you
know nothing about the piano and you need a place to start. Middle C, there’s our starting point. So
where do we go from there? We’ll let’s go that way C, the next white key is D then we have E, F, G, A, B
and we’ll tap it off with another C. That’s called a C major scale, let’s start again C, D, E, F, G, A, B, and
then C. So we have a scale, from that scale we can build chords. Let’s start back down at middle C, we
skip a note here we’re playing E, we skip another note F, then we’ll the G. So there we have a C major
triad, triad is just a chord made up of three notes played at the same. Here we have it, there’s our C
chord.
Now let’s build another chord using the notes in our C major scale. Let’s start on the F, we’re going to
skip the note G to play an A, skip another note B and play the C, there we have the F chord. So let’s
review, we have the C chord C, E, and G, and the F chord, F, A, and C.
Let’s build another one let’s move up one note on the bottom note there. We start on the G, we skip a
note A play the B, we skip a note C and play the D there we have our G chord. Let’s play them altogether
again here C, F, G back to the C. We’ll that sounds a little bit like something so let’s just fill it out a little
more and add our left hand. Our left hand is going to play the root of each chord. The root of each of
those chords is the note that we started on. In the C chord it’s the C, we’ll play it down an octave, this is
called an octave here, we’re going to play it down. Now the F chord has the F as the root, and the G
chord has the G as the root.
Let’s just play them in a sequence. Starting a sound little bit like something, so now let’s add our left
hand, the F, G and back to the C. Do that again, we’ll play four chords of each of them and come back to
the C. 1, 2, 3 forward to the F 1, 2, 3, forward to the G 1, 2, 3 and back to C.
So from knowing nothing about the piano, you’ve got a starting point, we played a scale. We built a
couple of chords and played a little bit of a song. I think know you’re well on your way to learning how
to play the piano.
