Alright, what is p? It is Aaron again. I got this request actually -- I think it is not last night but I got it this morning. And it is for the song called Wasteland by Augustana and this one is actually requested by ReallyLinShen. So, I try and get this out for him.
If you want me to give a little lecture for you, I learn the first on the acoustic about an hour ago. But it is on Drop D tuning. Note that everything else is on the tab. I am going to play it actually on the electric first then the acoustic. So, you can kind of see the two fields and figure out which one you like better. So, like I said Drop D.
Drop D tuning. Finger pick. You can use a pick if you want but I think it is much easier if you just stick with the finger picking. So, you are going to start out with your pointer finger on the 7th fret and your ring finger on the 9th fret. So, that is the E string, low E is open. The A string, you are going to have your finger on the 9th fret, and on the D string, finger on the 7th fret. You are going to play a little beat like this. I am going to play it through the whole thing once, so you can kind of get the feel in here. And then I will kind of go back over and teach it.
[Demo]
Alright, it is a little kind of harsh on the electric.
[Demo]
It is much better. So, pointer finger on the E, A, D string, 7th fret and ring finger on the A string, 2nd string down on the 9th fret down. You are going to play the low E string. Just open and it is on drop D whenever you are going to play.
[Demo]
You are going to play the E string by itself and actually you are going to play these two strings and hold them down.
[Demo]
Then you will play the E string again.
[Demo]
With the D string on the 8th.
[Demo]
So, you go 1, 2, and 3. 1, 3, 2.
[Demo]
And then you move your pointer finger down to an the E string, 5th fret. And you want to take that ring finger and put it on the 7th fret on the D string.
[Demo]
So, 1, 2, 3, 1, 3, 2.,1, 3. And then on the D string, you are going to come and play the 4th fret then slide down the 2nd.
[Demo]
For that little base out there, you can add in or leave out. If you are listening close on the song, I do not actually think it is in there but I think it sounds kind of fills in that gap. Something is kind of missing there.
So, 1, 2, 3, 1, 3, 2, 1, 3. And then whenever I -- before I go down to the 4 down to 2 into the pull up, I play this first string open.
[Demo]
So, altogether is --
[Demo]
One more time and I will try to play it really slow.
[Demo]
So, that is kind of the intro and main verse. Since we start on drop D, the chorus -- I think actually the bridge is really easy. All you do is you are playing the top two strings and you play 5, 7, 9, 7, 6.
[Demo]
That basically is the whole song. When I was messing around and learning it earlier, I like to kind of at the very end -- it is kind of the fade out.
[Demo]
And I will just finish on a D and let it ring out. Because that last note you are pointing out to is a D note.
So, that is how it sounds in the electric. I am going to actually switch guitar real quick and play on the acoustic, so you can actually get a feel for what you like better.
[Demo]
And you can also play this way.
[Demo]
That kind of gives it a little with the pick it is kind of sharper. And I think on the album, on the song I heard on You Tube, it is kind of more mellow.
[Demo]
So, ReallyLinShen I hope that helps you out. If it helps everybody else out too, that is great. Actually, I have not heard this song yet by them so it is kind of a cool way to learn new music. So, if you guys are able to watch it, you got any suggestions for music that I do not listen to, send me some messages. I will try to look for new music. I do not like the way it sounds everyday but there is so much of this and it is hard to keep track sometimes.
So, thanks for stopping by and let me know if you guys have any requests and I will do my best to learn them if I do not know them. And I hope they do not make it too confusing. So thanks a lot.
See you guys.
