The heart pounds faster, blood flow and oxygen are redirected. Normally information goes to the thought center for reflection, but when there is danger, it's re-routed to the emergency center.
Scientists believe that the brain sees images like a film camera, about 30 frames per second. In crises, the brain takes in many more frames per second. Like a high-speed camera, everything slows down seconds seemed to last forever. The result, our brain actually slows time itself. This adaptation gives us more time to evaluate our situation and ultimately enables us to survive.
