Christine: Hey, welcome to Watchmojo.com. I am your host Christine. Brazilian music is all about passion and joy, and today we find out why. So, I am here with Martin, one of the founders of the school, Estação de Luz what does that mean exactly?
Martin: Estação de Luz means two things. It could be the station of lights or the season of lights, we choose. We are Brazilian percussion school. We teach the instruments that are very popular in the North of Brazil and Salvador de Bahia. It's separated between two categories, the low, very low sound and high sounds. Salvador de Bahia is known for the low sound, what we call de fondo, the background. It's like an earthquake. We are specialize in groove. We have the one groove and we go from one side to another, following the musical director.
Christine: So, do you think anyone can learn these instruments?
Martin: Of course, here we living in North America and we trying to think too much, and rhythm is all about forgetting. In order to be good at what you do, you have to be completely free to your instruments. We have to learn from the inside. In that way, what we do is kind of meditation. It's purely rhythm and we can play it for two or three hours. We teach these instruments all in relation to one another. This instrument and so as to this other one. This one and this one and this one. It's really a collective mentality where everybody is making the whole.
