Male Speaker: We at DadLabs are always on the look out for cool things to do with kids once their school day is gone, just be active and getting to this, there are some new skills. We come now to Jump Gymnastics in South Boston to check out the scene. By the way today’s DadLabs is brought to you by BabyBjorn because sweets love bandits.
Natalie McKey: Our philosophy here at Jump Gymnastics is to be Boston’s most fun way to learn gymnastics. We find that it’s important for kids to have fun but also for them to learn it and to be able to come away from here knowing how to do summersault and knowing how to do cartwheels and being stronger and more flexible.
Gymnastics is a really awesome sport because it is one of the only sports that you can start when you are 2 and 3 and really see a lot of benefits from at that young age. Physical abilities, I think are far beyond a lot of other sports because they encompass the entire body, you are using your legs, you’re using your core, you’re using your arms. Any part of the sport where you are laying a muscular foundation at that young of an age sticks with you for your entire life.
Male speaker: Okay.
Female speaker: So hands on yellow, feet on blue.
Male Speaker: Yeah.
Female Speaker: Now if you are holding there and try to lift your feet up and pull yourself up.
Male Speaker: Okay.
Female Speaker: So you’re ready?
Male speaker: Yes.
Female speaker: Okay.
Male speaker: Hands on yellow, feet on blue.
Female speaker: Now life your feel and hold on.
Male speaker: Lift my feet up.
Female speaker: Yeah. Hold yourself up on your arms. oh, oh, oh look at that, look at that, look at that, that’s awesome.
Natalie McKey: The classes are 45 minutes and you meet once a week so you come to that same class time each week. The kids get to know the kids and the parents get to know the parents and it builds a really awesome community. Not to scare your parents off there but to be a gymnastics coach you need absolutely no qualifications, no certifications and no background checks. The one piece of advice I’d give parents is call your local gyms, make sure that they are members of USA Gymnastics and if they say yes, go a little bit further and ask them if your coaches are certified. We focus on the preschool level so all of our coaches have first day basics training, they have preschool fundaments, they have safety certification and then depending on what coach you got, they have several other certifications.
Female speaker: And this is called a spider man. And you make sure you’re within the spider web when you get right out.
Male speaker: Okay and then look at the spider web. Hands on the yellow, feet --
