When we think of plants in our homes for the holiday, we immediately thinks of this guy the poinsettia. But one trip to a garden setter or a nursery this time of year reveals a whole world of colorful alternatives. Like this subtle yet beautiful paper white narcissus. I plant five or six bulbs a week right on through the holiday, so I’ll have blooms until spring they’re very easy to grow.
And then there’s the cyclamen one of the most beautiful house plant you can have. Not only is the flower lovely but look at the variegation on these leaves. Cluster just a few of this together with some other house plants in a container and presto you’ve got a center piece. It’s very simple.
Talked about long lasting flowers, this Kalanchoe seems to bloom forever. And what could be more beautiful than one of these in a container with Christmas greenery in a bowl.
And what about this long standing holiday favorite the Christmas cactus comes in a wide range of color it will fit any decorating thing. It’s really one of the easiest house plant you can grow they’ll stick around for years. For instance, this one was started from a cutting four years ago and each year it just gets more and more robust.
This appealed to the flower lover and all of us but for those who have a more practical nature you may want to try some of these ornamental peppers they have the classic Christmas color theme going, beautiful look at and they’re edible. From the garden I’m Allen Smith.
