Female Speaker: Maintaining your dog's health is directly related with proper nutrition and diet. Today we are here at Brandy's, a Holistic Center & Canine Café to talk to Jenny, the owner about promoting healthier life style for animals. Can you tell me how the holistic concept works for animals?
Jenny Sousa: Its all natural foods for dogs, for cats. What you find here is its all human grains. So the idea is we are looking at food that has been made following the rules of human consumption. So you know that if by eating this chicken that you are actually getting real chicken and not just no bones and feathers and beak.
Female Speaker: Why should a dog owner choose holistic food?
Jenny Sousa: Obviously the best reason is that your animal will be healthier over the long term. So with that results in less that builds a happier animal that feels better, that lives a longer life and a natural food, we have to consider is that there are no fillers. But they are eating, the processing better, therefore assessing more efficiently. So as a result, they end up eating less per meal, less per day than they would on a commercial food. So depending on the brand, animal could possibly eat as much as half of what they were eating on commercial food in terms quantity per day.
Female Speaker: If holistic food is so good for your dog, how come everyone is not feeding their dogs?
Jenny Sousa: A lot of these companies, they are very small companies, they are private companies. They don't have the funding to spend millions of dollars in a promotional champaign. What they try to do is to sell only exclusively to small stores like mine for example, with the idea that you are going to have personalized service where some of them can actually go and spend the time with you and explains you the benefits of why that this product is better. One of biggest problems when I started looking for healthier diet for my pets and I started to compare ingredients and if you don't know, it can be very difficult for you to really get the best product that's in there and you are eating chicken meals and you say, "Okay, chicken that's great." But what's the quality of that chicken? Is it the left overs of human processing. Is it a quality protein? Is it a substitute protein? How has it been cooked, has is it been slow cooked? Has it been put under extreme pressure and high temperatures which will basically rob it of all the nutrients it has. It does help to do your research and that's best way to do it, just starting your research.
