Male Speaker: Doesn't mean your kid is called how the kids are is interested. So if it is odd but the overall picture so if you see a kid that's not talking at certain age but lift hands doing expressive language, we are happy with that but you look at the global look.

Carrie Leshin: You have to look at the whole picture, so if we don't see a child at 18 months of age using at least 50 single word utterances or at least make bring two words together that can be a red flag but it doesn't have to be a red flag if a child is using complex gestures to communicate such as pointing, such as grabbing mommy's hands and bringing her to the refrigerator and pointing out what she wants such as asking mom for a hug by just opening their arms and latching on, these are the things that indicate complex gestural communication and if a child has that I usually as a interventionist feel a lot better that the child is it on the spectrum that’s one great indicator and but may be the child does need some speech and language intervention because they might be a little delayed but suddenly its not indicative of any huge problem for later on in their life.
