There are lots of things that you could do like promotional modeling. Promotional modeling is basically live modeling where you are handing out, you know cards at the mall or in front of a store for a grand opening or sometimes at the convention where you could be handing things out and it comes to gathering crowds into somebody’s booth. What is great about those jobs is that it brings your personality out. You start to relax around other people. You can network with other models. You get to know a client. So it starts to kind of get your feet wet. It is a great paying job for someone that is just starting out, I mean, sometimes they can pay up to $30.00 an hour. I used to spray perfume at people at the malls and I get paid like $25.00 an hour when I was in high school. Well that is good money. That is good money, it is only four hours, it is for our gig and everybody runs from you but because I have that, I mean, it is a great job.
When I was in New York, I played video games in Times Square at a bar/video arcade and I get paid $30.00 and hour to play the video. I just have to walk around and challenge people to video games and I got really good. You could be at the convention and you could be showing somebody and demonstrating something on a computer. I have been a donut for Dunkin Donuts, you know waving a people on the streets but what people do not realize is it pays pretty good. You know, you definitely can get around $15.00 an hour a lot but some—and you can go up to $20.00, $25.00 an hour. So I mean I know it does not sound like the most glamorous modeling job but if I were a teenager or if I was just, even just, you know, in college or in my mid-20s still $15.00 to $20.00 to $25.00 an hour up to $30.00 is good money. You can be a donut, you can hand out things, you know, yes, the perfumes you get to that, but now there are a lot of embarrassing things that a promotional model do but you do.
I knew someone that, you know that flush, you know the things that you, one of the things that you flush, it is for the toilet, well anyway, she had to wear a mock toilet on her head but she made like $40.00 an hour and this was a consistent gig when companies will do a big promotions like this she is laughing like me and she is like a—when you are making $40.00 an hour, you are living in New York, you have no money, and you know, this job is not only, it is a consistent job, they had a campaign on what they are doing in several locations over a month period, I mean, she wears it over her head, you know it is like this, that the things you have to do to get to that point.
But what is great about promotional modeling and I did a lot of it back when I first started modeling and met other models and at those jobs, you are always asking them, hey, what agency are you with and are you working with them and how is that and then I had other people that have called me and said, hey, I have this other great gig and you know, would you be interested or I just got with this great agency, so it teaches you how to network. I have had people that I did promotional jobs for that then the clients hired me to do print jobs. You know, so it is all for a not being the snub and not saying you have to have a certain caliber work before you do it.
