Learn about Rio de Janeiro

The growth of Rio de Janeiro spreads out over the 143 kilometers confronts of the bay. The herbal waters are dark blue and filled with rocky outcrops with the most famous being Sugarloaf mountain which rises 404 meters high. Portuguese navigators named the bay Rio de Janeiro or the River of January in honor of the month they arrived and also because they thought that the bay was actually the entrance of a huge river.

Huge sky scrappers are nested in between the Atlantic ocean and the huge mountains which surrounds the bay. The highest of these mountains was nick named Corcovado or also the hunch back because of his hunch profile. Today on top of that mountain sits Christ the Redeemer, a giant statue of Jesus Christ which overlooks Rio.
