Vivia: Most people love to enjoy a glass of chilled rose by the beach. But I'm telling you, you can enjoy it year round. I, Vivia Gugnani in Fuendejalon, Spain at Bodegas Argonesas. Where they make the finest rose from 40 year old vines. Is it red? Is it white? We’re about to find out. So let's go behind the burner and meet the expert.
So I'm here with general manager Enrique Chueca. Enrique, I love rose. I like to enjoy it anytime of the year, not just the summer. So what is rose wine?
Enrique: The rose is red. This one is from garnacha red.
Vivia: The garnacha red grape?
Enrique: Yes. The garnacha is very, very typical in this area, in Spain, but also in this area. The garnacha is natural from Aragon.
Vivia: From Aragon.
Enrique: Yes. The garnacha is an area with a small production. We produce normally 2000 kilos per hectare or similar, 1 kilo per wine.
Vivia: So 1kilo per wine. The garnacha grape is use to make the rose, and it’s very small production.
Enrique: Yes. It’s very, very small. One vine produces one bottle.
Vivia: One wine makes one model, oh my God.
Enrique: Or less.
Vivia: Or less.
Enrique: Or less, yes, yes.
Vivia: So you really got to enjoy and savor every single sip.
Okay, so 5-6 hours from maceration which is the period in which the red skin of the grape touches the white juice. And then 5-6 days for fermentation. Which is less than what you have for the red garnacha wine that you would serve. The rose has less time for fermentation.
So let's taste. Come on. I want to have another one.
Enrique: This one or this?
Vivia: You tell me, you're the boss.
Enrique: This wine.
Vivia: Okay.
Enrique: I prefer this wine.
Vivia: Okay. So one for me and one for you. And I will tell you that it has an incredibly strong floral bouquet.
Enrique: Yes.
Vivia: This have a lot of flowers.
Enrique: It’s very, very fruity.
Vivia: Fruity also.
Enrique: Flowers.
Vivia: And flowers. Sweet. Honey?
Enrique: Strawberry.
Vivia: Strawberry, definitely. I taste a little bit of maybe cranberry and white peach.
Enrique: Yes.
Vivia: It’s a lot of that fruit flavor. Delicious.
Enrique: Delicious.
Vivia: Yes. But I see we have something sparkling here too.
Enrique: Yes. This wine is a little sparkling. We seen this wine, very, very good in the beach.
Vivia: In the beach.
Enrique: Yes.
Vivia: This is a beach wine.
Enrique: For the summer.
Vivia: This is rose all year round. You can enjoy it. But this is definitely your beach wine. So this is the Vina Tito.
Enrique: Yes. This being less than this.
Vivia: Right, it’s a little lighter.
Enrique: Yes.
Vivia: You can see that right away. The color of this bottle, the first one we have, is a lot darker. The second one, a lot lighter. And it has a lot of that floral in it. But it smells a little different.
Enrique: Yes, it smells different.
Vivia: It smells, maybe a little stronger.
Enrique: Its more different nose. It’s a little sweet.
Vivia: Yes, it’s a different nose. It’s a little bit sweeter. And so now. Oh my God, the finish is totally different. Super sweet, it’s like candy. This wine is like you could drink this and think you're having like simple syrup. It’s that tasty.
Enrique: It’s very good for woman.
Vivia: It’s very good for woman. We may can drink this wine like water, I think.
Enrique: I prefer this wine with salad, tuna, or salmon.
Vivia: That’s good. That’s all great choices. So cheers to rose, year round.
Enrique: Cheers.
