Learn about Salem, Massachusetts and its Witchy History

Rebecca Britton: This city is known as the most historic city in the East. Hi! I’m Rebecca Britton and welcome to watchmojo.com. And today will be continuing the travel series with the look at Salem. Located in the American State of Massachusetts, Salem is the City of roughly 40,000 people founded in 1626 by a group of fisherman lead by Roger Conant the city was it one point, one of the United States most important seaports. The city’s cultural identity and the reason for which it is famous today is derive mainly from its park and the Salem trials of 1692. During these trials numerous people were prosecuted under suspicion of witchcraft. Today the Salem witch museum provides and overview of the trials events and examine witchcraft in general. As tourism is a vital contributor to the economy of the area, there are various witch teams to tractions in the region. In fact, Halloween and witch team tourism has been on the rise in mid 20 of century and increase in the 1990’s when the city added the 100 happenings festival to there Halloween celebrations.
To compliment the Halloween theme, orchards in the area are great locations for families to pick there pumpkins or even grab an apple during this time of year. Another element of historical interest location in Salem is the birth place of romantic author Nathaniel Hawthorne; he is best known for short stories and breathes of novels that include the scarlet letter. The home and witch he was born is now on the historical museum along with the neighboring house of the seven gabbles. Aside from in witchy reputation, Salem is a colorful coastal city full of beautiful architecture and attractions the whole family can enjoy.
