Male Speaker: If you were going to design a perfect shoe that someone has to use everyday; going to school, going to work, what will be the characteristics of a perfect shoe in fitting correctly and into the mechanics if they walk as best as possible?
Dr Michael Perlstein: I don't know if there is one shoe that would every foot type because we have flat feet, we have feet with the medium arches, we have very high arch foots. So everybody will need a different type of shoe.
Male Speaker: Talk about a person without any normal foot problems, but they -- someone asked you, if I was going to buy shoes today, I have no problems and I don't want any problems, what will be the characteristics of that shoe that he'd look for?
Dr. Michael Perlstein: The shoe would have a roomy toe box so they have enough support in the heel; probably there will be a little bit of the heel raised to reduce the pressure of the frontal pressure as well as the forming forces of the Achilles tendon. It will have a lot of shock absorption, a lot of rubber on the bottom, it will have laces to actually make the area being held together properly, along with some lighter weight and perhaps even some tiny little holes, so the shoe can breathe and they would have very little problems with that.
