Learn about The Biography of Thomas Edison

Thomas Alva Edison is famous as the inventor of the light bulb but another one of his early inventions has proven at least as illuminating over the years. Edison established the worlds first modern research facility or invention factory as he called it. He staffed his middle cork laboratory with a mechanical engineer, a glass blower, a clock maker, a mathematician and other specialist. Since he himself worked around the clock, Edison kept staff members on hand at all hours. A full time draftsman was kept busy making drawings for the patent office in Washington. By industrializing the process of invention, Edison was able to amass over 1,000 patents in his lifetime, patents on such building blocks of the modern age as the incandescent lamp, the phone graph and the motion picture camera.
