Learn about The Merlot Wine - A Tasting Event
Hello everybody, how are you today? See what happens when you’re trying to break it Mott, do you like the pause there, let’s just keep this Mott, it’s authentic, hello everybody and welcome to Wine Library TV, I am your host Gary Vaynerchuk, and this my friends is the thunder show, aka, the internet’s most passionate warp program, I’m gonna say wine, I said warp program, and now that he have finally, just have the first moment of all time on Wine Library TV where I more, you know, quiet for more than one second, and I think we are very much ready to rock and roll on German pinot noir. I wanna continue to push the envelope of expanding your palette, and mine, today we’re going to focusing on a pinot noir, very interesting place, Mott, zoom in here a little bit. This is from the Baden, in Germany, all three pinots are freem here, also, pinot noir in Germany is known as Schpop Vergunder, so all three of these are pinot noirs, they used the pinot noir name on the front. Baden is a very interesting place, 5.8 hectares planted pinot noirs is definitely the place for pinot noirs in Germany, there’s a place that is producing high class pinot noir, but is rarely talked about, I would assume that 98 percent of the people who are watching this episode have never had a pinot noir from Baden in Germany or a German pinot whatsoever. It is in the south most, it is the south most region in Germany that is producing wine, it is in between the black forest, the hills of the black forest actually and the Rhine river, and it is a very fascinating place, 60 percent of the wines are white wines, you know, more thurgau, pinot grea, it’s right across the river from the Alsas, so very interesting place, producing very interesting wines, and it’s pretty interesting, Mott, you know 5.8 hectares, it’s a lot of pinot noir planted, it’s about almost the same size as the Coat de Orgue in Burgundy, yet nobody talks about red wine from Germany, the German wine council commission and marketing people have spent the last 100 years speaking about rizzling and that is why people talk about rizzling from Germany, yet it should not be overlook that people are trying to produce, I say trying Mott, to produced world class pinot noir in Germany and I’m excited about it, I’m excited to speak about the Baden region as well, you know, it is the third biggest region in production and anchorage in Germany, yet no fun fare, no fun fare, none, for the 9 districts that make up Baden. Trying to bring some education thunder, I like that, let’s get into the first wine man. Now all German fans, you gonna crush me for pronunciation, so I’m expecting my inbox, which I get a crap load of email, by the way, twitter highly recommend, four things are gonna be going on twitter and so, you know, I really recommend Mott, you know, that people follow me on twitter, followed Wine Library Daily, WLDaily, but the Gary V, you can link that up right on winelibrarytv.com, highly recommend, hatchaa! Things like that, I left the spit out, I just want to give them action, sorry, I know some people thought that was disgusting, but I just want to see what that would look like on camera. Anyway, Oberrotweil, 2005 pinot noir select from Baden, small producer, 25 US dollars, all three of these pinot noirs are in the 25 dollar price range, these are 20 year old vines from Oberrotweil vineyard, let’s see what’s going on here. Again, pinot noir, is a very tough grape to work with, very specific, very fickle, god that sneezing was wrong, we should edit that out, my mom would be, you know, I’m good at, actually hold my, I do that, I could usually hold my sneeze, you know, is that what my hands are for, I knew I did something, thanks Mott, you always make me feel better. By the way humongous guest on Wine Library TV on Thursday, I’m not kidding, bigger than Randall Graham, right of the bat, I mean, Randall, the be, I mean the best, that was the best, but iconic, I’m humbled, Thursday’s going to be insane. Anyway, let’s give is a sniffy sniff. This smells so neat to me, Mott smell this, very sneaky, you know, just really great manure, is it stinky for you, do you hate it? Or do you like it, kind of foot, it smells like foot, right, like mean potatoes and vegetables, right? yeah, actually, it’s kinda, kinda like a little bit of sour crout thing, I don’t know if subconscious, but, it really does have a little bit of a sour crout kinda thing. Very, very, ripe raspberry flavors coming through, but completely baffled and overcome by basil and by greeney aspects coming through on the nose, I like quite a bit, very funktified, very burgundian in its approach because it does have that poopy manure, sweaty sock, disgusting jock strap type nose going on, but I really like it, let’s give it a whirl. Huge, huge, like cherry coke, kind of little cola flavor going on the initial attack. I also get tootsie rolls meet tobacco on the mid palette, take a little tootsie roll, take a cigarette, smash them together, put them in your mouth, that is this mid palette kinda taste like, and I got to tell you, I kinda like it, let me give it one more shot. Wild, it’s got this initial attack of like cherry cola, then it get really heavy on the tobacco slash tootsie roll thing and then a lot of fruit, barky, kinda thing going on, on the back end, very intriguing wine. I like the mid palette, it’s almost the best way to, somebody who’s drink a lot of wine, reminds me of blending 85 percent pinot noir with 15 percent sangiovese, so that’s what it’s an imaginary blend of in my mind and on my palette, I kinda like this, it’s solid pinot noir, it is a little tad hot for me, 13.5, it gets a little hot for me on the back end, but this is very charismatic, I get a really interesting like, god, a lot of different flavors, now I’m getting almost like a hot pepper, you know, hot pepper tomato sauce kinda thing going on, just loads of different flavors going on, on the finish. I like this wine, I’m gonna give it one more shot. You can tell I like this wine, coz I kinda like drinking a little bit too much, I like this wine, this is a very nice bottle of pinot noir, totally different, very, very German I guess, very Baden, I don’t know, I haven’t had a lot of experience, but, definitely wouldn’t call it Oregon or California or Burgundy, it’s got its own flavor going on and that my friends, that is the journey, that is the journey of wine, and that is the journey that makes me love people so much, different flavors, different styles, different DNA, let’s embrace, not let the whole world get into one flavor, one style. Really like this wine I’m gonna score this wine 91 points, I like it quite a bit, a very good pinot noir, little different, little different thing going on, if it wasn’t hot on the finish, it coulda got real silly up in here, real silly. Let’s move, excuse me, Oberborgen, 2005 pinot noir from Baden, this is cold pressed pinot noir, 24US bones and let’s see what’s going on here. Again Mott, I find it fascinating not super far from the Alsas, not even super far from the Burgundy, just nobody, nobody talks about pinot noir from Germany, just nobody, and so, I’m really excited about trying this, did I rinse already? Rinse just because I wasn’t sure, I’ll get the last one up in this. 24 US bones Darrell Reeves’ number, amazing quarter back by the way, let’s give this a sniffy sniff. Think of the Teck, the Titans, excuse me, Tennessee Titans, 7-0 now, trying to make a statement, the Colts are way down this year though. Colts are down, the Chargers are down, the Patriots are down, this is the year for the Jets to, come on. Didn’t happen, still might. Wait to see my Jets builds inspiration. This is a little bit more of a classic of a nose of pinot noir, I get a little bit of a dry leaf component going on the nose, which I like quite a bit, it makes it a little bit different. I get as little more cherry. I also get a little bit of like smoky, like really smoky like, almost like, like smoke, like too much smoke, like almost like, oh crap, I’m gonna die kinda smoke, let’s get out of here, very smoky, like smoke filled room, very dark heavy smoke coming through on the nose, which I like quite a bit as well, kinda interesting, a little arbacious action on the nose as well, very pretty, little bit different, little, not as charismatic or interesting or off the cough as the last one, but solid neither the less, let’s give it a whirl. This is much more pinot noir, I would probably guess pinot noir in the blind tasting in the last wine, more so on the color, so little aspects on the mid palette, this one is just pinot city, you can recognize it from mile away, hey, is that pinot? Yeah, that’s pinot. That’s kinda thing going on, you know, I get a little bit of violet flavors coming through on the mid palette, which I like, I get a little kershee action, kersh royale action on the back end palette which is fine. It’s a little dull and boring though, very hollow mid palette, like in commando, Arnold Schwarzenegger sticks that tube, let a little air out Benedict, or something like that, release a little steam Benedict, or whatever the hell he said, Alyssa Milano was in that movie, anyway, big pipe in the guy’s chest, you remember, release a little steam Benedict, anyway, anyway, that’s what this wine has, it has the huge hollow commando line from that movie thing going on, which makes me sad, the finish is kinda disappearing, I get a little strawberry twizzler action on the back end, better than the black licorice, but, nonetheless, this is a lot more boring, much more simplistic than the last wine, solid, but I had pinot like this before for 15 bones. I’m gonna score this wine 91 points give it a pass and I to think of something to say, that’s all I got Mott, let’s move on. Screw top, I like that, it’s new wave, the screw top German pinot noir, my friends, the world is changing and I’m happy to be here, Karl H. Johner, 2005 pinot noir, 25 US dollars, 13 percent alcohol content and let’s see what’s going on here. So Mott, let’s give a little of birthday shout outs, Lennard Nithervel, who we stop the show for because I can’t read my own writing and Chris Brtueau, happy birthdays to them, and that’s exciting and, election day pack, Mott, link it up, link up my twitter, coz some people don’t see it on the right side here, or the right side when I’m on the left side, now for all of you people who are on the thread mill right now, and there’s a lot of them Mott, there’s a lot of thread mill people, there’s a lot of ipod people, there’s a lot of people in the subway right now watching, I wanna give you a huge shout out if you’re on location viniac, but that does not allow you not to comment, you gotta come home or get into the office and leave a darn comment, lurkers, I’m talking to you, you think just you’re in thread mill right now, you can go on to your day, and forget about all I gave you, you can take my love and just throw it on the side, well you can’t, get into the office and leave a darn comment. Let’s give this wine a sniffy sniff. Great color by the way, this really needs to be recognize, this is the darkest of the bunch, really nice, you can still see your fingers through, so that’s nice, little sniffy sniff action. Now this has a more disturbing nose to me, this is what I call white garbage, you know, definitely doesn’t smell like poop or manure or farm, this tastes like rainstorm New York city, you know, garbage on the street, rainstorm, just smells like wet garbage, smell it Mott, it’s not court, it’s not wet paper, some people are jumping with that, just kinda like, do you see where I’m going with that? do you like it or not? Not really? You get anything else there? I get a little bit of like, oh yeah, there’s definitely a little bit of like, there’s a definitely a little bit forch, for sure. I mean that’s almost like for sure, you know, so, there’s always little poop with pinot, but I get a little bit of wet garbage kind of component here, almost like wet banana peel, I get some green pepper noses coming through, but just really this smells like a rainstorm hit New York city sidewalks stuff, I mean, that’s what this wine smells like. Let’s give it a whirl. I was like the guy in Saturday Night Live. Do you know who I’m talking about? They’ve been putting him on a weekend edition, okay. Let’s give it a whirl, much better wine on the palette than on the nose, very intense, gorgeous cranberries, I mean, there’s cranberries and then there’s cranberries, just kidding, there’s cranberries and then there’s cranberries. This is gorgeous fresh cranberry component on the mid palette which I like quite a bit. I get beautiful leather on the back end which I find fascinating, chard, you know, chard chocolate covered raspberry leather, leather, charred at stuff, you know, really neat, really neat, killer, killer wine. Also has a sense of tobacco on the back end, I get a little cinnamon stick, if you ever nibbled on a cinnamon stick Mott, I get a little bit of that which I like quite a bit, this is a solid bottle of pinot noir, I’m gonna go 89 plus points on this, nah, I’m gonna go 90 points on this, I like this, what am I talking about, I’m trying to be a stickler for no reason, stop being a stickler. I don’t know who am in talking to. Really, solid pinot noir, 90 pointer, two 90 point pinots, 25 bones though, so you can see, even though I like them, you can tell I’m not getting completely rad up in this piece, because they are going to hit your wallet, but for the price that I think they deserve, the a, the a, the Obererger, you know, are you still on tree Mott, no, thank god, very nice. I fitted, that was pretty funny Mott, that was tremendous, question of the day, what is the best none American or French pinot noir you’ve ever had? Not American, not French, here come all the central Tago museum of pinot noirs, Casablanca pinot from Chile. Guys, super pump for Thursday, election day, can’t wait for that in general, this is pretty cool, health, you know, environmentally friendly, pretty cool Mott, pretty sweet box. And, other than that, things are going really well, I hope that you have a fantastic day and I can not wait for you to see what’s going on, oh, if you have been having slow issues with winelibrarytv.com, we’re changing servers, so those people who have been having problems with that, leave a comment is the viniac way. You, who don’t have this yet, with a little bit of me, we’re changing the wine world.
