Learn about music mixing

Hi everyone! My name is Anam a.k.a. DJ Mana and for Microtone Kitchen, ICM Records. Lot of experience in mixing and battle DJing so today I will run you through certain basics of turntabalism namely two things, mixing and scratch. And so we will start off with the mixing first, okay what I am using here is two turntables, a mixer, and a system called Serato.

What it does is pretty much like a real vinyl, we control it with these vinyl controllers. The music is actually coming from the mp3; it warped all the new system. Back in the day we just mixed with vinyl, okay, like so we didn't have this computer screen here. So what we would normally do is I would actually have in the headphones the next song coming in and I would try to find the speed of the next song. At the point of mixing is to play two tracks at the same time so you can make transitions from one song to the other.

So what I am doing with this one song is I am going to start with the song on this side. When you match two songs, play two songs at the same time you want to match beats. So the way you do that is you can play with the speed of the turntable which is on this thing called the pitch control device, okay. You notice how I -- it makes it fast and slow. But not all songs are recorded at the same speed, so I would choose songs that are around the same tempo and I would try to match it and fine tune it so that it matches the speed.

So the next song I am going to introduce on this side. Okay, so what I am going to try to do is try to introduce it on the right wheel and adjust to make sure it's on speed and make sure those twos that are playing at same time right now.
