Brent: Hi, I’m Brent Brodkin with watchmojo.com. If you’re a beer drinker, today is your lucky day because I’m going to take you on a trip to the vast and interesting world of European Beer. Obviously right now we have a lot of beers from Europe, being in North America right now. I want to ask you what’s the difference between a North American beer and some of the beers we have right now?
Tony Forder: Well, it comes down to it. There are more similarities than differences. Scandinavian beers are being highlighted here. They’re just an example of what’s become a kind of a global craft beer phenomenon which has begun in North America by adventurous brewers reviving old styles but also inventing new ones.
So, there are brewers in other countries that have kind of follow that lead and started making more, sort of extreme type beers. I have a beer here, this is the old Old Odense Ale which is a revival of a middle aged recipe from the 15th century when they brewed with herbs before the use of hops and the essential collaboration between the Norrebro Bryghus Brewery in Denmark and American brewery.
Brent: You mentioned that it has a little bit of European side and has some North American ties, is that rarely find?
Tony Forder: It is rare, but this is really an example of this global community that’s being started now where there are more collaborations. This beer here is collaboration between the Danish brew and Belgium brew. It has some sort of American style ale, very happy. There’s just similar things that’s going on in different countries that’s really a whole new revolution in beer.
Brent: On your opinion, who’s a better beer drinker, North Americans or Europeans?
Tony Forder: I think North America has definitely been referred to as the most exciting brewing that’s going on and in some other countries like Germany, some of these styles are actually in danger of disappearing and it’s almost like America has become their past history of brew styles and not just brewing them traditionally, necessarily they’re changing them and they’re making them their own. I don’t know about best beer drinking but the best brew is I think definitely North America
