Vince: Hey! Vince DelMonte here and I am with my buddy Rob Riches, World Fitness model. And we want to talk a bit about some of the obstacles people run into when trying to get a six pack. What do you think Rob?
Rob: Absolutely, abs is probably the one body part that most people want to attend to. That is the image that you see on the magazine, that sells that magazine, it is the six pack and I think people really fall apart when they think it is down to one exercise and they think that by doing countless number of sit ups a day, they can sculpt their mid section, burn all the body fat just by doing like 200 sit ups a day. A lot of people ask me, “How many sit ups do you do a day?” So, a general misconception I find with the people I work with and a lot of fans. The people contact me by e-mail and ask. They think that it is just the six packs that they get from doing crunches. You know now and every other professional out there and anyone who has a six pack. I think it is much more hard work than just doing the crunches.
Vince: If it was that easy, we probably all have a six pack by now, right? What do you think is another one? I know a lot of people set unrealistic goals. I find a lot of my clients. A lot people come up to you and say, “You know, Rob, how would I look like you?” And that is kind of like me going to a millionaire and saying, “How do I become a millionaire when right now my bank account is in overdraft.” So, what is like a first step to start moving at least in the right direction?
Rob: You know, you touched on a really good point there with money -- using money as an analogy. If you think of body fat as money and to mention, most people those are in that massive debt or overdraft. Now, if you switch that money with body fat, now most people tend to have accumulated a lot of body fats around their mid section. You can look at that as the debt. Now, of course the way to get of debt is to restrict their spending and start to take into account how much money they are bringing in and how much money they are spending. And they hate to use that same analogy and process with their body fats. So, they have this stored amount of overdraft or credit. One way to look at that, a lot of people if you ask, how much money are you in debt? How much money are you earning? They will have a general idea money coming in and then money spending. But if you ask them, “What about the energy that you are using, the food and the calories that you are taking in?” People do not really have a clue how much stored energy they have and how much body fat and how much energy they are consuming or spending through a direct source. So, what I say is, it is about baby steps and taking smooth steps to account for the stored body fats. The shaping starts to manipulate the foods coming in and the energy that you are using out. It is a balance. I think another misconception you mentioned, you said that people just stop eating. If they do not eat then they are going to burn out the body fats, which is for me, it is nothing more than the opposite of that because when they are fat burning –and that is it.
Vince: If I am trying to get into that money analogy, I think having the right environment is very, very important too, because a lot of people think, that it is just energy. Your fat loss is just a function of only energy. Well, it is also a function of the right hormones in your body that is why there are a lot of body builders take different kinds of things illegally because they want to create the right hormonal environment. So, being aware of your lifestyle and what you are doing on the weekends, whom you are spending your time with, if you are spending time with people who are creating a lot of stress in your life.
Rob: Absolutely.
