One of the stars of the 2009 Detroit show is Cadillac's all new SRX Crossover. The new SRX ditches the rear drive platform of the current model in favor of the new front drive based architecture that combines hardware from the Chevrolet Equinox SUV and the next generation Buick LaCrosse Sedan. As a result, the new SRX has dramatically different proportions and much more compact dimensions.
Overall length is down 4.8 inches and the rear base is shrunk by 5.5 inches. But the new SRX is a much more upscale looking vehicle. The exterior styling is an aggressive take on the refined autosized designed language revealed on the 2008 Cadillac CTS. Inside the interior feature is more dramatic and modern design and higher quality material, dues it's smaller interior package, the new SRX will not be available with the third row seating.
Two engines will be offered both V6s, base engine will be a three liter direct injection unit that's basically a deep board and de-stroked collision of the 3.6 liter found in the Cadillac's CTS. This engine will offer 260 horsepower and 221 pound feet of torque. Optional engine will be 2.8 liter turbo with 300 horsepower and 295 pound feet of torque, both engines are made into a six feet automatic transmission with paddle shifters, oil drive is optional.
GM claims that three liter will toll 2,500 pounds and the turbo 3,500 pounds. Highway fuel consumption will be about 25 miles per gallon. But the new Cadillac SRX is scheduled to go on sale in mid year.
