Hi! My name is Ryan Sasse. I am here with Ski Chalet in Arlington, Virginia. Today, we are talking about how to get you set up with the new set of Ski equipment. Right now, we are going to focus on all the accessories you will need to make the trip complete. First, we are going to talk about goggles and your helmet which are two very important components. Not complete necessities but can certainly make your trip much more comfortable throughout. Obviously, a helmet is going be important because it is a very large safety factor. The helmet is going to protect you in case you take any fall or in case somebody happens to lose control and run into you accidentally. Certainly can help. It is kind of like driving down the road these days. It is not necessarily your ability you have to worry about. Sometimes you do have to worry about other people as well. In getting into a new helmet, you just want to focus really on the fit. First and foremost, you want to make sure you have got a comfortable fit.
The helmet is not going to slide back and forth on your head. That way if you take a spill, the helmet doesn't expose any part of your head to damage. There are some other things you can think about with the helmet. Certainly, ventilation is a key point. If you are skiing in cold weather, obviously, you want to make sure that the ventilation is close. That way the helmet keeps you warm. It is not necessary to wear a hat underneath of the helmet, so you don't have to worry about that. In the spring time though, if you are skiing, the ventilation is going to come into play. Just because at that point you are going to want to open the ventilation just to allow your head to breathe and cool you down. The helmet is obviously a hard shell so that is where the protection is going to come from. There are different ways to ventilate the helmet. Something like this is probably one of the top levels of helmet just because it does have an automatic ventilation function here and different levels where you can open and close the ventilation.
That certainly really comes in handy. Then you also have got a goggle strap on the back with the snap which is going to hold the goggle strap on that way. If the goggles do come off your face, you don't lose them in a snow. That is certainly very important. You have also got the earpieces which most of times are going to be removable. Sometimes you can even replace with an audio version. That way you can listen to any of your mp3 or iPod. Most helmets these days do also have some sort of device that will cinch the helmet down and also make it fit a little bit better. Now we are going to move on to goggles. When it comes to goggles, few things you want to focus on. Obviously, you are going to be fit to start with. The lens of the goggle, then just make sure that the goggle does have ventilation. As far as the fit good goes, you certainly just want to focus on making sure that you have got a good fit around your face. And it is not too tight on the bridge of your nose or against the size of your eyes. You want to make sure that you just have good vision all way around. Basically beyond the fit, you can certainly look at ventilation which is going to come from just about any goggle. But there are some that do make easier to ventilate. You have got some that have a contraption at top that allows you to open ventilation and close ventilation for different types of condition.
You are also going to get ventilation from around the frame or the foam that surrounds the frame of the goggle. It is going to help keep the goggle ventilated. That way you have limited fog and you have got a very good view point at all times. Your sight is not hindered at all. The lens you want to focus on depends on a kind of light condition that you are going to be in. If you are in high light, you want to focus on a darker lens, obviously, just like a sun glass. Something that is going to keep the brightness away from your eyes so you have got solid vision all the time if you are going to be in a low light or cloudy type of situation, you probably want more of a colored lens, anywhere from a rose pink, yellow, or even a blue lens that is going to help highlight the conditions of the snow that you are in. That way you have got better vision throughout. You have got better judgment throughout the slopes as well. You can even get into a clear lens if you are skiing at night time or in a really, really cloudy dark day, just to keep the snow in wind out of your face.
Also if you have got glasses that you need to wear while you skiing, you can get an OTG goggle, which is an over the glass goggle. Certainly and basically, it tends to be a little bit wider and it also has the capability on the side of the frame to fit against your glass frame, that way you don't have any problems fitting the goggle over your glasses and you can wear those both at the same and you don't have any problems with your sight. Also, the last thing you want to remember is that if you are wearing a helmet and you do get some goggles, you want to make sure that there is a good fit of the goggle against the helmet. That way you don't let any air in through between the two so that can't cause problems as well. You certainly don't want create an aspect where you get cold air coming directly at you forehead. It can cause some serious headache, if it does happen.
