Pamela Ferrell: Hi! I am Pamela Ferrell with Cornrows & Company Natural Hair Care. And today, I am showing you, how to do a simple cornrow hairstyle. Now I am going to show you, how to do an outward Cornrow, and outward Cornrow the finger placement is under hand. So we'll start first, what I have done, is I have sectioned the hair into six sections and that's where my cornrows will go and that helps to kind of pre-plan the style. Just to make sure, that the partings are as neat, as you can get them, because the parting is going to be part of the actual design.
Okay now, first outward cornrow or underhand cornrow. I am going to start right on the hairline and I am grabbing three small pieces of hair and the difference now, is I am going underneath the middle piece. So under the middle and if you notice, I go in and I am grabbing hair from each side and pull it in to that middle piece and I will start out pretty tight at the very beginning point and then, I am going to go very loose, because I want kind of a soft puffy cornrow.
And I am doing my stitch very loose, very soft. And now, we will do our second cornrow and I will section that other way and again, we are going to start out with three very small pieces of hair at the beginning point and there's our three pieces and I am going to go under, and grab and bring the outer piece under the middle, outer piece under the middle, outer under the middle. And as we do this, we grab a little bit of hair from that side section. And we start out, so that we have a relatively tight and small cornrow and then, I am going to loosen up and it will make it a little puffier a thicker cornrow.
And of course, the tension is optional or if you want to do cornrow that's a little tighter stitch and if you notice, I am saying tighter stitch not tight cornrow, because we don't want the cornrows to be tight, they shouldn't hurt and it shouldn't be uncomfortable at anytime. But if you do a tighter stitch then, that makes it less stitches, as you see here where we have each of these stitches, if I want have do a tighter stitch then, I might have doubled the amount of stitches in that space.
Okay so now, we have finished the other side and as you see I did six cornrows across, and this is what we call the outward cornrow okay and we do this, with an underhand method and in the back, we have our invert cornrow, which we do with an overhand technique.
So the next thing we'll do, and that will be the end, is we are going to do the finishing touches, where I will pin up this hairstyle and I will just finish her hairline and make it nice and neat and smooth and she is ready to go.
