Vionna Jones: Hi! My name is Vionna Jones with Fit in DC. Today, I am going to show you how to get fabulous abs. First, I am going to show you how to have strong core muscles, how to strengthen the transverse abdominis? The inner abdominal muscles that you can't actually see from the outside. Then after that, I am going to show you how to strengthen the rectus abdominal muscles which is the outer layer of abdominal muscles. Those are the ones that you associate with having a six pack. Then after that, I'll show an another set of exercises that are a little bit more advanced for those of you that want to take your ab exercises to the next level.
So there are two definitions to having fabulous abs. The first would be to have strong core muscles, that's the transverse abdominal muscles that are underneath the six pack abs. These are actually the most important abdominal muscles to strengthen. They are responsible for having good balance. They are responsible for good posture. They are also active when you sneeze, when you laugh. Whenever you trip or fall, those abdominal muscles will actually keep you from falling. So those are really important muscles that you want to keep strong.
The second set of ab muscles that we'll talk about are the rectus abdominal muscles that are on the outside. Those ones that you can see in the magazines or on the beach where people have six pack abs. Those are the second set of abs that we'll work today.
This abdominal workout is meant to be done either at home or at the gym. You actually don't need to have that much equipment to do these exercises. You just need a mat, a stability ball, and a Bosu or some balance discs. We can work on these exercises all day, every day which I wouldn't suggest and still not see the six pack abs that you want to see, unless you really focus on doing cardiovascular activity and also having a good diet. It is recommended that you do 20-30 minutes of cardiovascular activities, whichever kind you like, be it running, walking, jogging, riding a bike, using the elliptical machine, there are millions of ways to do it. You just really want to make sure that you have at least 20-30 minutes of cardiovascular activity on most days of the week.
So here are some safety tips. You always want to make sure that you consult your physician before you start on a new exercise routine to make sure that your body is healthy and free of injury. Then also you want to make sure that you have a nice clear space that is free of obstructions before you get started.
