Determining the Fan size
I’m Felix from Michael & Son. We’re here today to show you how to install a ceiling fan. First of all, we have to determine the size of the fan either if you need it or not, we have the downrods.
The size of the fan depends on the size of the room. So each manufacturer gives you guidelines on how many square foot you have in your room. How big is the diameter of your fan? In this case, we’re going to use a 60-inch diameter fan. We’re going to use a downrod. The downrod we’re going to use is 6 foot long. That's because of the height of the ceiling.
If your ceiling had a lot of pictures around or decorations, you don't want to cover them. In that case, the ceiling fan will be installed higher. You don't want the ceiling fan cover those pictures. If you want to use your fan as a light for the room as well, you depend on that light, you better have the ceiling fan installed closer to the floor, so lower.
So that depends for each installation. You have to go accordingly with your house. Now that we can determine the size of the fan, the size of the downrod, we’re going to prepare the area. First thing is drop cloths; we have to put them at the floor. We’re using a 16 footer ladder, A-frame, an electrical insulated. It doesn't need to be like that because we’re going to cut the power, anyway.
In this case, because of the weight of the fan, it’s kind of heavy, and because we’re using downrod, you require two people, one to hold the fan, while the other person is climbing up the ladder. At some point, the two persons will be in the ladder so the ladder we’re using is capable to handle two workers at the same time.
