(Piano playing)
This is a C Major chord. You will know all the major chords, once I show you the secret formula within this one C Major chord. You will never need a chord but to play perfect major chords, once you understand this formula.
Forget trying to remember all the various key combinations, which white keys to play, which black keys to play, etcetera. Just remember this one simple sentence,
Thumb down
(Demo)
Three open.
(Demo)
Two open.
(Demo)
Repeat that phrase a few times, thumb down, three open, two open, thumb down, three open, two open.
Now, with that phrase well planted within your mind. Let us look at the secret formula makes one major chord, all major chords. The secret is the space between the notes. Let us take another look at our C Major chord. However, this time let us make everything disappear except for the space between the notes.
For the sake of simplicity within this lesson, I am going to omit ten tons of awesome, mind-blowing music theory science and say simply this; “No matter what key you place your right hand thumb on, if you keep this same thumb down, three open, play a key, two open, play a key formula. You will always be making a perfect major chord no matter where your thumb starts.”
The key under your thumb is the name of the major chord you are playing no matter where you start.
Best wishes, Marcus.
