Welcome to Sideline Star, your online cheerleader. In this video, you'll learn about cheerleading cheers and cheerleading chants plus examples.
Cheerleading cheers and chants have evolved from traditional crowd cheers to an infinite set of performance cheers and shorter game action chants. As participation in the activity of cheerleading grows, so does the number of cheerleading cheers and chants in youth.
Cheerleading cheers and chants used to be one and the same. But now, it is understood that cheerleading cheers are for longer performance cheers, used during longer breaks in game action. For examples, squads will perform a cheer during pre-game, a time-out, pep rally, or half-time performance.
Performance cheers may include props such as signs, megaphones and poms or flags that promote crowd involvement in the call and response portion for the performance cheer. Here is an example of a cheerleading cheer.
Are you ready? Are you ready? This great crowd. Can you feel the heat? Play up with pop! Gonna give all we've. We're the one to beat. Get up your beat. Go stars. Go. Go stars. Go. We're H-O-T. Can you feel the heat? Go stars.
Cheerleading chants on the other hand are used throughout the game action and are usually short phrases that are repeated so the crowd can catch on and yell along with the cheerleaders. Chants are usually more game specific and include phrases like offense, defense, touchdown, and push them back. Cheerleaders should understand the rules of the sport they're cheering for so the chants they call make sense into the game situations. Squads may choose to use signs, megaphones and poms to enhance their sideline chants as well. Here is an example of cheerleading chants.
Let us go deep to the O. You know stars pay. Let us go deep to the O. You know stars pay. Let us go.
