For this first section of the DVD, we are just going to be looking at the basics of the five note pentatonic scale. And it is also in five positions as well. So we are going to do this in A minor and we are going to start on the fifth fret on the low E and this is the first shape.
First off, we are going to start on the low E string on the fifth fret then we are going to play the eighth fret on the low E. Then move to the A string and play five, seven. Seven on a D, seven on a G then five, eight on the B string and then same on the high E string. And then, to come back down the opposite way, you just play the same notes all the way down.
Here is position number two. Start in this, on the low E string on the eighth fret then we are going to play the tenth fret. Then move to the A string and play seven and ten; same on the D string. Then move to the G and play seven and nine then eight, ten on the B and the high E string; then the same coming down.
Now for position three, to start this one off, we are going to start on the tenth fret on the low E and play 10, 12; same on the A and then same on a D. Then we will get to the G string, we will just play nine and then 12. Then 10 and 13 on the B and finish up, we are going to play 10, 12 on high E and then back down the same way.
Now, position four. This is actually similar to position one but we are starting this one on the 12th fret on the low E and then play 15th. Seven on the A string then 12, 14 for the D and the G. 13, 15 on the B and then 12, 15 on high E and then play the same coming down.
Now, for position number five, we are starting this one on the 15th fret on the low E and it looks like this. So we got 15, 17 on the low E and the A. Then 14, 17 across the D and the G string and then back where we started, on 15 and 17, on the B and the high E and then the same coming down.
