Hey guys! It is Aaron. I think I have a lot of Jesse McCartney request basically for Beautiful Soul and Leavin’ so I am going to go ahead right now and tackle Beautiful Soul. Both these songs are really kind of simple chord changes. They are both in standard tuning. No capo or anything. And kind of the distinctive intro, Beautiful Soul, it sounds a little different but this is the way I like to play it, I go [Demonstration]. And then I play Bm, just like that. So it is like, [Demonstration].
So, the intro, the chorus and the verse are all the same chord progression. There is an A to E, to the Bm, to the D. I play it, that is the middle finger. It is up to you.
[Demonstration]
Then you go to your Bm. So that is how I am going to teach you the strumming. The 4 chords, I play them real quick. If you do not know what they are, click on the tab up here and if you run your cursor over the top of the chord shape it will actually show you. Basically when you run your cursor, it gives you a picture, a vertical picture of the guitar frets so it is almost like you are looking at it ups, you know, if you look at it from the top, E, A, D, G, B, E, just like the strings are. So wherever you see an “X,” that is where we are going to put our finger. It is like on your E, in the G string, you have your 1st fret, you have a finger on the 1st fret, there is an X there. So you put your pointer finger there.
Then on the A and D strings on the 2nd fret, there are two exes so you put two fingers, it just happen to be your middle and ring or ring and pinky, it is up to you. But I just need you to have those pressed. That is your E, all right. So the first one is an A. In A you have these top two strings open and then the D, G, B, are all covered on the 3rd fret. You can do it like this, you can do like this, it is up top you. I prefer your middle finger on the D string, pointer finger on the G and the ring finger on the B, it is all on the 2nd fret. Because that way, from there to your E chord, you leave that pointer finger there on that G string, just slide it up to the 1st fret then put your middle and ring down the 2nd and 3rd strings, your A and D. That is your E. Then your ring finger is common and leaves that from the E, leave that ring finger there. Slide it up to the 4th which is where it is going to be for the Bm, put your pinky down or behind it on the G string, put your middle finger down on the B string and then you bar across. It is your Bm, right there. Then come to this D so you have to take everything off and get back to your D.
But the intro, in the A chord, I just play this. I play [Demonstration]. I play the A chords, that 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, number them from top to bottom. I do it 2, 3, 4, 5, so it is 2, 3, 4, 5, slide to the E and just strum it. It should sound like this. That is the first part. Or you can go [Demonstration]. IF you just want to strum it, just do [Demonstration]. One strum on E then you go up to this Dm and you need to do like, 3, 4, 3, 5 or like 2, 3, 4, 5, 2, 3, 4, 5 anything you want. It is all up to you. I want you to do your 4 notes like 1, 2, 3, 4, or 2, 3, 4, 5 or 2, 4, 3 5, anything you want. Those 4 notes there and switch to your D, strum it.
[Demonstration]
It is Bm for the intro. Then for the chorus, verse and everything, it is just A, so it is A, to the E, so I go [Demonstration], and then I mute with my palm on the strings, so [Demonstration], mute, switch to E, that is three down strums. Then slide to Dm and it goes [Demonstration] then mute with my palm all the strings. Then go to D, three down strums. Just like that. That is the same way for the intro, the chorus and the verses. Only thing that is different is when you get to the bridge, you actually go into an F#m which means you bar across the 2nd fret then you are going to take your ring to your pinky, to put them on your 4th fret of your A and D then you are going to play this, [Demonstration]. So that is your extra minor E’s. So, third, 2nd fret in this low E, 4, 4 and for the rest just play these top three strings and you go [Demonstration
