Hey guys, this is Aaron. I have been getting a lot of request for this song by Paramore called Crush, Crush. I have also been getting a lot of requests to do more lessons on my electric guitar, so I will try to satisfy all you guys tonight.
The way I am going to teach this song is probably not exactly how Paramore plays it. So, if you are a Paramore fan, and this is not exactly how they play, do not send me hate mail, just, you know, realize this lesson. Basically, I am trying to make this song as easy as I can, so you guys can play it.
So, we are going to start out and drop D tuning. I think they played in drop C but we are going to play it drop D. So, basically if you are in standard tuning, all you have to do is tune this. Your string goes towards the D and it sounds the same as this, your 3rd string down. That is how your low E would sound like.
[Demo]
Alright. With the verse. I am going to make this as simple as I can. You are going to play a series of three since you are in drop D, you can play power chords. Basically, what the power chord is you take one finger and following that one finger, you just slide it across. You are going to try to pick just the top three strings. Pretty much this whole song, out in the riff. You are just going to strum the top three strings.
[Demo]
Just like that. So, for the verse, you are actually going to use 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8. 8 down strums. When it open, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8. For your power chord across the 1st, 3rd fret. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8.
10th fret, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8. 12th fret, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8. You do that twice. The third time though, you go open, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8.
3rd fret 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8. In the 10th fret, you actually play 16 times. You get 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8.
So, hopefully you guys can hear that all right. I am trying to keep it quiet since I have people living above and below me. It is 11:30. 8 times three.
[Demo]
That part twice. Open, 3, 10, 12. And the third time, you just you open, 3. That is the third time through. There in the verse, the rhythm guitar is actually -- after that, there is kind of the, I guess, you called the three quarters on that but they are playing 8th fret, let it ring out in the 10th fret, let it ring out in the 12th fret, then let it ring out into that 12th.
So, that is A. You can hear if you lis10 to the song too. Then there is kind of the -- I guess that would be the pre-chorus. The rhythm guitar does this --
[Demo]
8, 8, 8, 8, 8, 7, 7, pause it, open. Pause again then open. That part there where the rhythm is going is what the lead guitars going to miss. This little riff.
[Demo]
Yes. So, fellows, I would recommend not worrying about what the rhythm says or what it says on the tab. The rhythm does this, do not worry about that but the lead is actually -- you can see the tab which is over here. Click more info if you cannot find it. That is where the tabs are on my videos. You click more info and stuffs there.
Take your pointer finger barred across the bottom three strings then your 12th fret. So your high E, B and G. And you are going to play on the high E, you are going to play 12th 13th with that middle finger and then 12 then take that middle finger up to the B string, 13th fret. Play that then your ring finger kind of placed in the 14th, on the G string. And back on the high E, you play 13th then the middle 12th.
So, we are going to do it closer. Alright, we are going to go high E. It is right, this is awkward.
[Demo]
Like that. Alright. Let us see what is next. Alright, the chorus. The way I play the chorus is your going to open twice. So, 3, 3, then 10 once, then 8, 8, open, open. 10, then open, open. 3, 3, 10, then, 8, 8, 8, 8. So, 8th fret, 8 times. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8. 10th fret, 8 times. 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8.
Alright, then there is our little riff. This is kind of distinctive thing about the song. And that riff, what I want you to do is it is going to sound a little something like this. It is going to go --
[Demo]
Yes, something like that.
[Demo]
Alright, I want you to take your middle finger, put it on the B string, 2nd string from the bottom on the 10th fret. Alright, let us get it close again. Alright, so this right here I am on the 2nd string at the bottom. You guys can see it. On the 10th fret so, you are going to play 10, 11 with the ring. 10, back that little to 10, 11, 10 on the B string. Stretch that ring up and play 12 on the G, 10 with the middle then you are going to hear when you play 9 with the pointer. So, it goes --
[Demo]
It is on the B string. The notes you are going to be playing is anything on the 10th fret. You place your middle, 11th with your ring.
[Demo]
Then you move to the G string. Your 12th fret plays with the ring or pinky, whichever you prefer. I will play with the ring because I am going to use my pinky very of10. You play 12, 10 at the middle 9 with the pointer.
[Demo]
And you play 10 with the middle, 9, 10, 9 then stretch up here in the G string, 12th fret of the ring or pinky up to you and then 10th fret with the middle. And then you have to put it a little lower if you play 10, 10 again on the first thumb through. So, you play it through the whole thing together just like this.
[Demo]
Then it starts over.
[Demo]
But you do not have this last two 10 10s there. Check out the tab, it will explain. While that little riff is going to lead, the rhythm is just plain. 12, 12, 12 then 10, five times 1, 2, 3, 4, 6. Then 12, 12, 12. 10, 10th fret, three times. Alright, so 12th fret, three times. 10th fret, five times.
[Dem]
12th fret, three.
[Demo]
10th fret, three times.
[Demo]
The bridge, I just played open, three, 10, 10, 10. Do it 8 times open, 3, 10, pause, 10, 10.
[Demo]
Then the outro is really pretty simple. In the outro, you are just playing in sets of A. 12th fret. So, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8. 10th fret, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8. 8h fret.
[Demo]
6th fret.
[Demo]
1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8.
And then, after that, 8th fret 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 6, 7, 8. Then 10th fret, 4 times. 1, 2, 3, 4.
11th fret, 4. 1, 2, 3, 4. And then it ends on 12.
So, the whole outro sounds like this.
[Demo]
So, check out the tabs, if you have any questions, let me know. I hope this video has been good for you guys. Also, actually this got hooked up with the site called 5. It is www.5min.com. They want to put this on their site too. I will not make any money on it but hopefully some more people will see the videos and learn the guitar.
So, hope you guys are still enjoying the videos. Hope I am putting ones up if you guys are enjoying. I got a ton of requests and do not worry about me running out of songs. I will be doing this probably until I die or my fingers fall off.
Take care. Hope you guys enjoyed the lesson and catch you later.
