Hey, what is up guys? It is Walt here, I have been showing you a lot of like music theory, sight-reading, and things throughout the past several videos but I think it is good to learn how to play a song because that is where the real fun starts.
So what we are going to be working on today is how to play Jingle Bells. It is a great song. It is in the key of C. Make some four-four so it is a great first song to learn or if you are more advanced, it is just a fun song to play and it is timely, it is Christmas season. So let me play it real quick then I will explain it and there is a video information and core diagrams of things in the links to the videos preempting if it is ever on this side. So it is going to have diagrams and stuff so let me play it real quick then I will explain it. All right, so Jingle Bells here we go.
One, two, three go.
Jingle bells, jingle bells. Jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh. Jingle bells, jingle bells. Jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh.
Dashing through the snow in a one horse open sleigh, over the fields we go laughing all the way. Bells on bobtails ring. Making spirits bright, what fun it is to laugh and sing a sleighing song tonight.
Jingle bells, jingle bells. Jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh. Jingle bells, jingle bells. Jingle all the way. Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh.
Okay, so now there is the song. You can change it. You can get the noted line at the end. You can go or whatever you want to do to change it. All I did was throw in a D7 and get a key of C and C, okay. Work in a key of G, 7, 7 C, whatever you want. The end result is all the same. You are playing a song and you have providence. So now, here is what I did. That is if you cannot play the score really fast. All you have to do is one of the two things. Either slow down the tempo, so that you have more time to change between the chords.
You now have more time to change between each chord. The other thing is that you can keep the original tempo but give yourself more time to change between the chords. Now, what I mean by that is that when you are changing the chords, leave a little bit earlier and maybe get to the chord a little bit later. You know, whatever you have to do is like get the smooth trend. Get the smooth transition so that when you are playing, do not be afraid to play the infant strings.
The reason is because this is an E 7 chord. It is really a parent of the parachord, your E minor, which is in the key of C. Here is the chord. So now, if you are changing the chords and you cannot play that fast, play the open strings, so go.
Okay, now the problem is that the melody line might clash with this chord but if it is going really fast or going — you are not really hearing it, you are but you are not, so that is the first thing. The second thing is the strumming pattern, I am just doing all down strums, you can go up down up down if you want. It is a little bit, it is more like a, kind of like a fast song, so to go or whatever it is and that might be a little bit too busy for the right hand.
All in all, the chords are really, really simple. All this stuff is in the diagram to the left. When you are singing, if you want to play the actual chords and have your friends sing so that you can just concentrate on playing along, that is a good idea. If you want to play the melody line, you know, if you are a little more advanced, play the melody line and have your friends play the biggest fine line. It is going to be like a guitar duo, that is pretty cool but all in all, take it slow. Have fun with it, it is November, I will play it in a minute, it is November 29. November 30, it is November 30 so you have a month to learn the song. If you want to, record yourself playing the song and upload it on the video as a response to this and I would love to see it.
But you have about a month to learn the song and play for your friends and family and it is pretty good. I mean, you know, learn, I do n
