Hello guys! It is Aaron again. This is the third Johnny Cash song of the night. But this one is actually called Ring of Fire. And it is one of his popular ones. The tab I am going to send you actually has two tabs, one is from Johnny Cash version which I am going to teach. The other one is for the version that Joaquin Phoenix played in “Walk the Line.” So, you know, you can check that out if you want. But I am going to teach you the Johnny Cash version.
The intro is playing the trumpet so as far as trying to put it on guitar, you start with an A string and you play 2, 3, 4, so [Demonstration].
And then on the D string, you play, then it follows the second, so open and then open, open, open, open. Then the second fret, B strings, third fret, A string, open, D. So it is like this. [Demonstration]
That is the first part. So, 2, 3, 4 on the A string, now the D string, open, open, open, open, open, open, open. Two on the D string. Three on the A. Then open on the D. All right, that is the first part. So [Demonstration]. Like that. The last part is you start your pointer finger on the second string, your A string, the second fret you play [Demonstration]. So, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 then 3 on the A string, open A string, second fret, [Demonstration].
All right, so on the A string from beginning, two with your pointer, three middle, four, ring, then open. So 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 down the D string, second fret, then third fret on A string, open on the D. [Demonstration]
All right, the second one is pointer finger on the second fret of your A string and you play 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 then 3, the middle, open, pointer finger, second fret on the A string. That is the intro. First, the chords go, it is just like some of the other songs at the top end he plays alto in bass strum. So when you see a G chord, you are going to play 6, 1, 4, strum, 6, 1, 4 --. That is where you get the G, it is all turning bass. The C chord is 5, 4, 5, 4, 5, 4, or, you know, I am just saying numbers because I do not like -- instead of 6, 4, 3, D, B, D, strum, B, strum. With the C you will play A strum, B strum, A strum, B strum, like that. And then G, C, G, D, C, G, D, C, G, D, C, G. And the chords there is, I fell into D. With the D you are going to play 4 strum, 3 strum, 4 strum, 3 strum, 4 strum, 3 strum.
And that is really the only chords you can play. This is kind of a little more difficult because he played it so quick but like the first one, “love is a burning thing,” is -- so you start down the G, lift your strum, it would be D, C, G. So it only looks like half, it is like playing two measure at four beats. So really what you are going to be playing is the E string, that first bass note, 6 of the G. You can play it once then end it. It will sound like this.
[Demonstration]
Like that. So, if you are going to play this as fast as he does, you can just strum it. If you want it to be slow play it as, you get your G, the first bass, that is on the low E, so it go which is, you know, strum, go to fourth, and switch your C into 5, 4, back to your G. that is how the chords go for the verse. For the chorus, it is D, it is quick, so the four, three, this, switch to C, five, four, to G, six, four, back to the D, [Demonstration]. Like that. So it goes quickly from the D, C. If you want to strum that, just play [Demonstration]. But as far as the picking, remember it is D, C, G, [Demonstration]. Just like that. So it goes D, C, G, D, C, G, and then it goes “and it burns, burns, burns,” it is G, “the ring of fire.” So that is like C, G, C, G. So, it is all pretty quick.
So, check the tab out here guys. And I hope this helps. See you later.
