The next one we have is “Runaway Train” by Soul Asylum. The tab that we have here guys in the last is a little different. It just got the chord before the lines. So, basically you start strumming that chord at the beginning of the line and you go through the whole line with that. The few chords mixed in
Now, a couple of these through the middle of the line you will see like one line says, “It seems” and there is F in brackets, that just means, obviously you switch to an F at that point. At the very bottom of this there is like finger picking in kind of extensive tabs if you want to work with the band or anything to cover it. If not, here you go.
It is in standard tuning and really the chords you use are C. With the C you want to put your ring finger on the 2nd string down, your A string 3rd fret. Then you want to put your middle finger on the 3rd string down 2nd fret. Pointer finger, 5th string down which is your B string on the 1st fret. This is C.
The next chord we are going to get to is Em/B. All that means in this song is that you want to play just a regular Em, where you pointer finger, 2nd string down A string, 2nd fret, ring finger 3rd string down 2nd fret. But you try not to play this low E. This should not sound like this.

This sounds like this.
[Demonstration]
Not too much difference but that is how the tab is.
Am. You have your middle finger 3rd string down on 2nd fret. Ring finger below it on the 4th string down your G string 2nd fret and 5th string down your pointer finger on the very 1st fret and that sounds like this.
[Demonstration]
That is your Am. After that you have the G which is a four finger G. Middle finger 3rd fret, Pointer finger 2nd fret, open, open, and then ring and pinky 3rd fret is in here.
Other than that you have the F, bar chord. I believe that is it.
The F, bar chord, you bar across all the strings 1st fret. The middle finger goes on the 4th string down, your G string. Ring finger goes on the 2nd fret, that were it goes too, on the 2nd string down your A string. Ring finger 3rd fret and the pinky on the 3rd string down your D string 3rd fret.
[Demonstration]
That is the F. All right.
The only way really to get into this song is just to play it and you strum along with the music. So, that is what I am going to do. I am going to walk you through the chords as the song goes. So get ready. Starting out on the C where it says “call you up in the middle of the night”.
I usually just strum the verse chords starts with C, Em, Am, G, C, Em, Am, G, F, switch to ¾’s G, C, Am, F, Em, G. Here comes the chorus. It starts up with C, Em, Am, G.
Let us start the second verse, can you remember same exact thing. The interlude, “bought a ticket for a runaway train” is just C to Em, to Am to G and you should be able to see that on the tab. There is a lot of other little steps thrown in, if you want to improvise there is a lot of other stuff on this tab but the basic is just the chords in the beginning.
One thing I will recommend is going through these chords. You want to try keep fingers just like we start out with C, you go to Em instead of picking all your finger up and going to Em, you can leave that middle finger from your C there, this is where it needs to be so just put the pointer next to it. You are familiar with Am, that middle finger stays in the same place again and you put other fingers down. Then the G, you really just have to move everything. Then from G to C, you start back over. So, that is how I recommend playing it.
From the Am to the F is really a whole transition and F to Em. From C to Em to Am you do not have to move that little finger and after that you have to move your fingers.
There is the tab. If you have any questions or comments. For some reasons some comments I do not get notifications, so if you have a comment and I have not answered you and it is something important then send me a message for me to fix. Thanks guys. See you.
