Guys, what is up? It is Aaron. It is late at night. I just got back from Hilton. Actually, I just came from the beach with my family. But I got some songs I want to try to get done tonight.
They are going to be kind of easy ones. This first one is called The Rain Came Down by Steve Earle. It is going to be really pretty easy simple strumming pattern, simple chords. Four chords you are going to use are G. Standard tuning. The G, I guess you guys know what G is.
[Demo]
If you do not know what G is, the tab over here, you can run your cursor at the top of it and that will show you real quick or you can Google it and those things. So, G, C, and D are the chords used in the verse and the chorus. Actually, in the verse and the pre-chorus. And then there is also an extra one, it is an Em. And the run in the --.
The Em starting down the chorus. So, basically on the intro it is just the verse chords strum a couple of times. It goes like this. It is a G chord and it goes --
[Demo]
It is going to go down, down, up, up, down, up, down. Down, up, up, down, up, down, up. So, the G is two measures there. So, it is G.
[Demo]
So, that is the first measure.
[Demo]
Down, down, up, up, down, up. Then again.
[Demo]
Then you switch to C.
[Demo]
The same strum pattern. Down, down, up, up, down, up. To the D.
[Demo]
Back to your G.
[Demo]
So, that is the intro and the verse. Then the pre-chorus is “And they settled down hard on a government grant. With six mouths to feed and forty acres to plant.” And that is just C, same strumming pattern to G. C to G.
If you do not like playing this regular C, you can actually play C9 which is just not too dark. I have good lighting here a little bit, but this is a G.
[Demo]
If you look to go from a G to Cm9, you keep this bottom two the same, these two over here. You keep them right there on the 3rd fret. And then your G, your pointer finger is here on the A string, 2nd fret and your ring is like twisted a bit of the angle. And your ring is on the 3rd fret. You can move that down to there and the pointer down to the D string, 2nd fret. It was on A and your ring is on the G or on the E string 3rd fret. You can move your middle finger down to the 2nd string, A string and your pointer down to the 3rd string, your D string 2nd fret pointer, 3rd fret middle. That is your C9.
So, that is actually easier. It is just like a G and you take this two and move them down the strings, as the intro. You can put that if you want. Then it is the same strum pattern for the verse which goes D, “and the rain came” and it is at Em there at the “rain”. “And the rain,” D “came down,” Em. Down, down, up, up, down, up. “Like an angel,” C.
And then into that line, “Like an angel sent down from above,” has a G above the above, do not play that because I cannot hear that unless it is just like,
[Demo]
You know, one B. You can do that if you want but I would just play C straight through. Down, down, up, down, up, down, up. Then you go back to the D.
[Demo]
So, I am just going to play and start through on the pre-chorus. It is “And the rain came down,” it starts with D, Em, G, C. Start all over. “And the rain came down.” And then once this starts, C, you make that “It'll wash you away and there ain't never enough” that is just D. Then I believe this is the second chorus. Yes, it is just G, two measures to C to D.
The bridge which I find it -- I think the bridge is “While my grandfather died in the room he was born in twenty-three summers ago. But I could have sworn he was beside me this morning when the sheriff showed up at my door.” That is just D to C. I think it is D, two measures. So,
[Demo]
To C, “twenty-three summers ago,” G. “But I could have sworn he was beside me,” so it is D, one measure. This is D then C maybe two measures then G, “showed up at my door.” Another C, then pre-chorus and the chorus again.
So, check out the tab over here. Hope this helps you out. If you got any requests that you want to play it through the grandfather’s birthday.
So, hope that helps and take care. See you guys.
