Hey guys! What is up? It is Aaron. This next song I want to do for you tonight is called Thunder, it is by Boys like Girls. It is really an easy song to play. The way I am going to teach you, the only thing that is going to be kind of difficult is getting your guitar tuned correctly. The tab that I found is in, it is called open D tuning. It is something that is actually one of the first songs that I ever worked with that is in that tuning but just strumming the guitar without any fingers on any of the frets sound like this. So, it sounds pretty awesome just strumming. The way you are going to tune that is you can Google it to kind of get a good explanation. But basically it is drop-D tuning, usually the -- is E, A, D, G, B, E. All right, the top string, instead of being of an E, it should be drop down to a D. The next string stays at A. The third string stays at D. this string should be at G. and then drop it down half a step, so it as an F# or Gb, same thing. F# and Gb are the same exact note. All right, then the string down here, your B string, you need to drop it down to an A so you need to take it down a whole step. In the last string, your high E, it needs to be a D as well. So, if you do not know how to do that tuning the only way that I can suggest for you to do is to Google it. That is really about all the thing I can -- the only advice that I can really give you is to Google and see if you cannot find a better explanation. It helps to have a tuner for that as well. Now, once you get the guitar and open-D tuning, it is really pretty simple. The verse has kind of two, I guess you should say there is 4/8 beats, the kind of rhythm sectioned here. For the first one, for the verse is you strum all the strings open. So it sounds like this. [Demonstration].
The strumming is for two measures. So the strum pattern I use is down, up, down., up, down, up, down, up, down, so it is down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, do it twice. Then take your pointer finger and middle and you put them on the top, the E and A string on the 7th fret. And you strum the rest, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, two measures down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down. Slide your two fingers down to the 5th fret. [Demonstration]. Back to the 7th. Then you take it off and open again. [Demonstration]. 7th [Demonstration], then you are going to take your ring and pinky and you are going to put them on the two middle strings, your D and G, 7th fret. That is the first part of the verse.
The second part of the verse that comes after that is you play, every chords that you are going to play is you are going to have your pointer and middle on this top two strings. So if I say two, you jump both of them to the 2nd fret. So it goes 2, it is like, down, up, down, up, down slide to 7th, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, down, slide it to 4, up, down, up, down, then 5, you have two measures again, so [Demonstration], up, down, up, down, down, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, so that part two is you are starting 2nd, you go to down, up, down, up, down, slide up to 7, up, down, up, down, down, up, 4, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, slide to 7, down, up, down, up, down, then you are going to go to the 5th fret, for two measures. And you come up here to the thing where your middle and pinky or ring and pinky on the 7th fret of your D and key your 3rd and 4th strings down your middle ones and you just play two measures. Actually it is one measure, it is just down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, so that part, it says verse part 2 on the tab. The third part is the chorus.
The chorus is the same almost as the verse except you are going to play [Demonstration]. Open twice, two measures, 7th fret, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, the 5th fret, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, up, down, then you are going to play instead of down, up, down, up, down, so two measures you are going to play once, you are going to down
